PvP for Exotic Bounties? Is this Arrogance? Cuz We hate it...

I ask if it's arrogance because do you [Bungie] believe that your PvP is so fascinating that you feel the necessity to succumb everyone to it, under very specific conditions, without considering that not everyone cares for your PvP? Let me also state that my wife and I really enjoy Destiny, primarily for its co-op PvE environment. My friend and his wife also enjoys it. Both of us bought a 2nd PS4 just so our wives can play. Although it sucks that the 4 of us can't play together as two couples for the majority of the content, so thanks for excluding that demographic, Bungie, but that's a whole different issue. The point is, we enjoy this game and we share a common thought... we really don't like the PvP in this game. And as far as we know, Destiny wasn't advertised to be primarily a FPS PvP game. We're fans of CoD and BF so we do appreciate FPS PvP, but we really don't like the way PvP is in Destiny. We just don't like the way it's done and we feel it lacks substance. That's our opinion, and therefore we chose not to play PvP, and we're not complaining about why we don't like PvP in Destiny. We didn't buy Destiny to PvP... we wanted the PvE co-op experience. What we are frustrated about, is why you're forcing us to PvP in your Exotic Bounties, without offering any PvE alternative? Your game has so much emphasis on PvP, when it's not advertised as primarily a PvP game. It's already bad enough that end game gear is easier to obtain through PvP, which works just as well in PvE, and that you have more PvP vendors and gear choices, but now if we want the only Exotic Hand Cannon (for example) from the bounties, we are forced to PvP? We understand Exotic gear should take effort to get. We totally understand and are prepared for that. But why not offer a choice for that particular part of the bounty? Like, "Do PvP for this part OR collect 1,000 Wizard heads in level 26 or 28 Heroic difficulty". We'd rather do the latter. Give us choices. This design leads us to believe one of the following: 1) The designer of these bounties completely missed the mark on making a task "Difficult" vs making a task that is "loathed" by a group of people. 2) You're so confident that your PvP will interest everybody, that you completely ignored the possibility that some could hate it. AKA - Arrogance. Or it could be both, I suppose. We were thoroughly enjoying the PvE elements of the game, and when my wife and I both got our Exotic bounties we were ecstatic and looked forward to completing it together, ready to take on some difficult tasks. When we got to the part that involves PvP, our hearts sank and we were completely discouraged. It was to the point that I was reminded I still have a few days to return our Destiny Bundle to Best Buy, just to illustrate how Frustrated we were. To those who are having fun in Destiny's PvP, that's great. This message is not for you, and nor do we care about you defending the PvP system. This is about a poor game design decision to forcibly mix PvE and PvP without the consideration of the players. You wanted feedback, so from a Male AND Female's PvE perspective, this is just incredibly frustrating. We're likely going forget about exotic bounties and hope you some day will introduce PvE based Exotic Bounties. Thanks for your time. /Endrant. TL;DR: This wasn't advertised as primarily a PvP game. Why is there so much emphasis on PvP, which also forces PvE players to PvP, to obtain Exotic Bounty Gear? Your PvP really isn't that great to expect everyone to engage in it. Give us PvE options for Exotic Bounty.

  • I'll preface my comment with a quick word to the wise. I know that the Crucible has many players taking part in it; however, there is a certain demographic that ruins the entire PvP element of the game. The selfsame group that has destroyed every PvP FPS I have ever been unfortunate enough to play. I'm certain you know the group I mean. So to sum up; yes, there are probably plenty of perfectly friendly people in the Crucible, but they are completely eclipsed by the negative element. Anything I say that generalizes those enjoying the Crucible is not meant to pertain to all players, just those that make any online interaction a thoroughly disgusting experience. Let the PvP kids complain all they wish about what you wrote, because there are many of us who agree entirely with you. I think we just need to realize that it was less costly, in time and funds, for the developers to reorient the game from a PvE focus to PvP. Otherwise, why would they make the PvP bounties give better rewards than their campaign counterparts? Why would it seem PvP players are receiving better rewards ,including Exotics, faster and easier than the PvE community? I purchased Destiny for myself as well as a whole new system, television, and copy of the game for my wife to experience an epic journey, not to socialize with the foulmouthed, disrespectful, taunting, ill-mannered children that worship PvP combat. One can usually spot them quite easily; low Grimoire score, stock Emblems, and or ships, but it is their behavior that typifies the bunch. They drain any amount of enjoyment from all of the PvP matches they invade, and make it a chore to do anything involving the Crucible. To those questioning why we see Crucible requirements as such a grotesque endeavor; it isn't that we do not want the Exotics enough, it's that we shouldn't be forced to deal with the PvP kids. It is cruel for those of us who make it a habit to avoid that entire in-game population, primarily because there is not enough protection built into the system to keep them at bay and to punish transgressors. Taunters, tea-baggers, and all of their ilk should be banned outright, but alas, that seems to be Bungie's target audience for Destiny, so I doubt we'll ever see their numbers decrease any time soon. One final remark. Just in case someone at Bungie, not only reads anything on the forums but takes to heart what we are saying, I have a final snippet of wisdom. It is a truely noble thing to create a world where people can socialize and come together in common purpose to create a thriving community; however, the very existence of an under-moderated, reward based PvP section is not only detrimental to, but negates the possibility of a healthy community.

You are right on the spot. I couldn't agree more! Isn't it possible to get exotic weapons from Xur though, paying him with those rare coins you get from doing strikes (PvE)? The arrogance and/or short sightedness at Bungie's is inbelievable. I am asking myself whether all of Destiny's design decisions have been made by under 25 year olds for whom a demographic above 25 simply does not exist. The true idiocy lies in failing despite knowing better.

          • A pve exotic bounty and a pvp version would be great for everyone. Don't say earn it. It's not a valid excuse for poor game design and people go with what bungie tells them. Never let a game company tell you how to play their game.

          • I've never played a game where PvE and PvP are so entwined, and in such horrible ways. Here's some Crucible Factions, and some Crucible specific contacts in the Tower. Okay, fine. But, what is the Crucible? Why does it exist in the PvE world, and what are the factions? And, more importantly, why do I have to participate in it, even though I hate it, to get the complete PvE experience? Exotic Weapon Bounty? Go to the Crucible. Wanna reach Rank 3 of the Queen's Bounty? Go to the Crucible. I just don't get it. I mean, it doesn't really matter to me. It's just content that I'm not going to use in a game that is already woefully short of unique content. It's disappointing.

            • Exotic bounty: Exotic Hand canon: Bubble Blaster of Love Task 1: Dance for 20 minutes straight (breaking/stopping the dance at any point will result in the timer resetting). Task 2: Point and wave to 20 Guardians (One point, and one wave counts as one point. If someone points at you, it deducts one point). Task 3: 500 Helping Hand Points (5 points will be added to your total for every death you receive by an enemy player, 1 point for suicide, and -2 points for killing an enemy player). Task 4: Dance for 40 minutes straight (the grinding is getting harder, you can do it guardians). Task 5: Make 5 post in Bungie forums about how ridiculously hard this bounty is (each post must contain 2 paragraphs of why this game was a waist of money and that this bounty is too difficult, also include on paragraph of false exploits that have no evidence to back them up, but defend the exploits anyways). Task 6: The finger of Death, receive 10,000 Finger Bang points in Crucible (pointing at an enemy grants you 10 points). Task 7: Dance for 120 minutes straight (this is insane, I'm just going to dismantle this bounty, -blam!- this shit, I hate this game, why can't I have an exotic weapon, I deserve one because I paid moneyz for the gamez. OMG GIVE ME FREE GUD FUN GUNZ NOW!). Congratulations Guardian! You've completed the exotic bounty and received The Bubble Blaster of Love! This bounty should be made for the people that can't do real bounties (The Bubble Blaster of Love does friendly fire damage and heals/revives enemies).

              • Oh no. Not another one of these threads. Look I'll put it in the simplest terms I can think of, I've spent more time than I'd like to admit fleshing out the concept in other threads. Exotic Bounties are not meant to be competed however you'd like. Exotic gear is however meant to be obtained however you'd like. Note the best light granting gear in the game comes exclusively from PvE raid gear dropped in the Vault of Glass. Not only does the Vault of Glass offer the only route to obtain this gear, it also features exotic drops. You can effectively get every exotic in Destiny without once doing an Exotic Bounty. THERE IS NO FORCED PVP. THERE IS NO PVP PRIME DIRECTIVE. If you don't want to earn an exotic by doing the tasks required DON'T DO IT. Every exotic bounty requires PvE to some degree and some require it entirely, yet not a single one is purely PvP. NOT ONE. You also cannot get raid gear from PvP, which is the best (if not only) method of reaching level 30. Yet, where are all the threads complaining about that? Oh right, they don't exist. Seemingly because the PvP focused players understand the basic principle of performing a specific task to get specific rewards, and also likely because the vast majority are not PvP only players. So no. There's no arrogance involved. Just ignorance on account of the user making the observation.

                  • TL;DR anything... But I think Bungie needs to let their Bounties be more specific. I did the 25 K/D ratio bounty last night thinking it was going to be impossible, Got it done in 2 matches. It was basically have more kills than deaths over however many matches, I assumed it was for one match. I think the other PvP ones are similar they just take longer.

                    • It is an Exotic Bounty, for some of the highest tier weapons in game at the moment. It is only right that you should have to experience all aspects of the game to complete the bounty. Everytime I get one, I delete it because I have no intention of PvPing. It is my loss, but also my choice. There is no requirement for you to do the bounties. Stop moaning, and either do some PvP or delete the bounty.

Not we, you. I like having the bounties affected by both parts of the game. There is no reason to hate either part of the game.. I guess Bungie wants people to try both. By the way. No one is forcing anyone to play anything they don't want. If you don't want to do PVP then abandon the bounty and get the gear from Xur. They are just giving us choices... different ways to get Exotics, thats all.

                      • I have seen this a LOT lately and always from the same perspective... a PVE player. Think of the PVP players who cant stand pve but are forced to do the pve side of the same bounty. Think of how frustrating it would be to complete 25 strikes for those players. All that aside i view the exotic bounties as requiring a serious challenge to be completed in all aspects of the game. As it stands i see an exotic bounty weapon and its somewhat impressive knowing tthe task they had to complete. I would just laugh if i knew you just had to kill 1000 AI with headshots or something silly like that

I mean what if these PVP players HAD to play 4-5 hours of PVE to get to the next Crucibal? I bet they would complain just as much.

It's just them holding onto their past like a first blanket. Developers are slowly realizing PVE and PVP would rather die in the ocean than live on a island together.

                            • You are forced to do pvp for your exotic bounties BECAUSE half of Destiny is in its pvp. Think of Destiny as half PvE and half PvP. The bounties have both PvE steps and PvP steps. This forces you to experience both sides of the game not just one side. If bounties were PvE only then it will force players who love pvp to just play pve then you'll just see another one of these threads.
