If there's one nice thing about doing patrols and exploring the ope world parts when on a story mission or strike, it's "Hey, there's a chest over here."
And I'm missing that during the story or strike missions. Once you get into the locations, there are no more chests - and yet, there are many, many times where you will just trod along a path, or having cleaned out the enemies could take a look around. But there's nothing to find, so everyone just sprints through.
Where's the exploration? The joy of discovery? Outside you do look around for loot and resources, but once it's Respawn Restricted you develop tunnel vision and just run from fight to fight.
I believe the missions would immensely benefit from special loot chests, containing resources, uncommon, rare or even legendary items. (And preferably items, not engrams. You see what you get.)
Hell, even regular chests would be an awesome addition to make trudging through the same old hallways between fights a bit more interesting - simply because there might be a chest hiding in a corner, somewhere.
So please, add some chests to the story and strike missions in the parts where it's just you're fireteam. Hide them well enough to be fun to find, move them around to keep us on our toes and stock them up to make it worth our while.
Kinda like "little raid chests". And the harder the difficulty, and the more boss fights there are, the more and better chests there should be - with one to appear after every boss fight.

Like the chests in the raid? I think that would be awesome. That along with the gorgon maze was my favorite part of the whole thing.
