Melee Weapons

Community, Bungie, Comrades; lend me your ears. I am thoroughly enjoying Destiny, but I won't lie and say there are no issues. However I am not going to rehash them because I have no working solution for them. Instead, I would like to explore opportunities for new ideas and content, especially in the realms of player choice and customization. When I play Destiny as a Titan I find myself boosting from perch to perch, swooping down on enemies to punch them in the face, only to have them recoil and live to counter me, stabbing with knives or slashing with massive greatswords. This frustrates me for a few reasons, 1. I am a Titan. The flavor text for the Striker class even says at close range a fist beats a gun. Well not really. With the exception of the Fist of Havoc, the melee skills of Titans leave a bit to be desired. 2. Hunters have a super where they take their knives and go berserk, hacking and slashing willy nilly while being nigh indestructible. I am advertised as a sturdy close quarters brawler; why is the sniper making me look like a wuss? 3. One of the main issues everyone is having with Destiny is the lack of creative missions. Two events that stand out to me as truly awesome involved melee weapons; The Sword of Crota, and the Relics in the Vault of Glass. Both times you get these incredibly powerful weapons with unique abilities that don't change based on your class. Why not have more of this? In that vein I propose melee weapons and a means to balance them. We mix some old with some new. Melee weapons would be in two categories, normal and heavy. Normal would occupy the special weapon slot while heavy would occupy the heavy. The weapons would have special properties like all special weapons (added damage types, increased attack speed after kills, etc.) But rather than having it be an unlimited source of badassery it would operate akin to the energy sword and gravity hammer; there would be a charge on the weapon and for the duration of the charge it would apply the aforementioned special properties. However once that charge runs out it is weaker than your unarmed melee. Recharging the weapon would simply involve picking up the corresponding ammo type, and the drop rates would be significantly lower to encourage full use of your arsenal. I just think adding a different kind of weapon would give a more personal feel to combat because right now I feel like everything is a bullet sponge. Being able to capture the magic of the Sword of Crota mission every so often would kick major ASS. It's a rough concept but let me hear what you think!
