The idea is similar to how in MMOs (WOW, Diablo) you look at a person's avatar and you just say, "Dang...That looks sick!!!" and this shows off the person's commitment to the game or things they have achieved or focused on to grant them this UNIQUE and EASILY IDENTIFIABLE sets of armor. Then you yourself want to find out, do what needs to be done, to get that armor set as well. Now back to Destiny. If people had things like this, it probably would affect the PVP works (big things sticking out, making you an easy target) and overall from a FPS point of perspective doesn't add much. But, having a set of honored regalia, that is mostly cosmetic, worn by our avatars. Think an amazing flowing cape, suit, banner, that is worn like an overcoat, that is visible when you are at the Tower or when you about to start a PVP match. As soon as the game starts your character quickly runs an animation that discards this coat in a flashy fashion and you are back to your normal avatar armor, with your teammates in awe at how awesome you look. To illustrate this more, maybe your main is a hunter. So you don a rare cape made of pure shining glass for completing the Vault of Glass or one made of the carcasses of the Fallen Majors after head-shotting 100 fallen majors. A particular piece of draped over armor that shows off a particular achievement. All this is cosmetic, maybe they should have perks to them. This will enhance the content people want to grind for, but to have a means to show off the things they have worked for in the game - Be it completing time sensitive events, doing well in crucible or finding all the ghosts, etc.. As it stands now, most of the armor looks pretty ubiquitous and there hasn't been any, "Wow, that is amazing" armor sets yet. Thank you for your consideration Bungie and Bungie community!
