Perseverance

When I fired up Destiny Friday night the first thing I did was check my Strange Coin count and browse Xur's wares. Man, I really wanted that Auto Rifle, Suros Regime. I had been trying to get a legendary auto rifle to no avail. I had a legendary or exotic weapon of nearly every other type, but not the auto rifle I wanted. Unfortunately, I was 7 coins short. A number I knew may be next to impossible to achieve by Sunday. I could get the Crest of Alpha Lupi, sure...but I already had an exotic helmet, fully upgraded. I was resigned to my fate, accepting that I should just save my coins. Then, come Saturday night after running bounties and strikes with my buddy all night we are turning in engrams when I notice something. I am only 4 coins short of Suros Regime. Suddenly, a surge of hope. 4 coins? The hour was late, but I still had time, this was doable. Another engram decode later and another strange coin, only 3 to go. That's when I remembered I could still do the level 28 weekly strike for +3 coins. There they were, my 3 coins, taunting me...waiting for me. We needed a third man. We had tried to 2-man it a couple days before and knew we needed more firepower at our side. We had another on our friends list, but he was level 24, too low for the lvl 28 strike. Thus began our side campaign, we needed to get this guy on our level. We re-ran strikes so he could get coins for an exotic, we ran bounties to get his Rep up so he could buy legendary armor and we even farmed mats so he could upgrade those items...and he hit level 25. Go time. The strike was difficult, we blew through the mobs to the boss with minimal difficulty, but the curve was steep. We died, we fell, we lost many times. We had the boss down to a sliver of health just to frustratingly die to zerg rush spawns. A shield would fail, a novabomb would miss it's mark and all was lost. But eventually, a light in the darkness. We triumphed. I had done what I thought was impossible. I had closed the gap, gotten the coins. It was nearing 4am, but I still had time. I rushed to Xur to claim my prize, the Auto Rifle I wanted, no, needed. Satisfaction. This has been one of the best moments for me in Destiny yet, and it was more than a moment. It was many moments of triumph and defeat shared amongst my teammates and I. Say what you want about buying exotics, and trust me, I was against that as well, but I worked and I fought, and I earned that Auto Rifle.
