Earn Gear

We want you to earn all your gear so we'll let you buy it for Xur! Honestly, he defeats the whole point of exotic gear

    • I don't understand their statement of 'earning' gear. When I think of earning gear, I would think of some of the MMOs I used to play. Defeated that really difficult boss, that took your raid weeks to beat? Here, have an awesome Epic, you earned it! Although in Destiny, you aren't truly earning anything by completing challenging and difficult activities and events (Excluding Raids. I haven't done one yet, so I have no idea how the reward system is based off of that). For the majority of the game, you are at the mercy of RNG. If you defeat a boss in a strike, there is a very tiny amount of chance he will drop something (I've only seen one boss drop anything for me, it was a blue 'gram). There is very little incentive to complete strikes based on the notion of acquiring gear, when you can just go to a farming spot and, while not fully guaranteed, have more and mayhaps better loot drops than the two rewards for completing a strike. I'm not saying bosses need to be dropping exotics and legendaries out of their pockets left and right (This should be saved for the very challenging difficulties), but there needs to be an incentive besides Rep to complete strikes. Even the amount of marks is capped weekly is capped, furthering putting a damper on gear acquisition. If Bungie wants players to tell a story about how they received an awesome weapon, the story shouldn't be "Well, I encoded this engram I got from a reward screen and got it.".
