I was soooo excited! Finally, at level 23, when playing the first Mars mission, one of the enemies I had killed had dropped something purple, and when I got closer it turned out to be indeed a legendary engram and not another heavy ammo pack.
I thought "Hey, maybe it's a really cool gun, or at least a nice piece of armor!" So I went to the Cryptarch to decrypt it. I goooooot ... a rare arm ring.
D'uh.
I looked at that for a brief moment, and then started to smile, thinking "Well, that's what this game really is. A total let down offering no real play value in a nice, inflated package".
I didn't feel enlightened, as that impression had become more and more intense during the last days I had been playing Destiny. It just was a confirmation of what I had come to think of Destiny more and more the longer I was playing it.
I didn't feel the desire to curse the Destiny game designers and devs; I just thought "time to move on to something worth spending my time on".
Btw, my son got his first legendary engram dropped today, too. It turned out to be one of those rare coins you need to pay Xul. That's certainly what people are looking for when getting a legendary item drop.
Destiny is a bloody joke, a caricature of a good MMO/RPG hybrid. Who'd have thought that Bungie, makers of the famous Halo series, would so epicly fail.
Certainly not me, but you live and learn.

The exact thing happened to me while patrolling Venus. I got a Legendary Engram decoded it an got a rare arm band. Very disappointing and discouraging after playing for hours on end. Plus I keep getting the same uncommon and rare armor drops. I know there are more than Axiom Covin and Nemesis Plane armor parts, but that's all I ever get after a week and a half of playing PVE on all four planets.
