I was talking with a few friends today and our conversation sparked the idea of letting players invest in their gear in a much different way. Our idea had a few key points:
- - -
- Allow players to take a low level item that they like the look of and make it into something awesome
- Make this process be a "Labor of Love"; possibly at the price of breaking down legendary and exotic items and using special materials like motes of light and the like to achieve
- Allow players to take this custom creation, give it a name, and call it their own.
- In the end, you could have a common, uncommon, rare or any other level item that would be one of a kind.
- This process would be very difficult and these custom creations would take a great deal of investment to get to the level of fully upgraded out-of-the-box Legendary and Exotic items. This process would give your item a unique story.

This mechanic posses many design challenges and balancing this would be a huge task, however, the experience would be unlike anything I have seen in a game (maybe this has been done in some way before, but I'm sure Bungie could make it unique and add that polish and golden touch they have).
Imagine someone asking you "Where did you get that gun 'Every Rose'???" You know it started with breaking down Thorn... It was a labor of love that took patience and dedication. In the end, it's yours. Become Legend, Guardians.
Let's get the conversation going about this. I would love to hear all of your thoughts about this topic and share ideas.

I posted something similar about mythic tier who's upgrades all have option slots and the slots choice affects the design of the armor, but this is more awesome.
-
Soooo you want an ACTUAL crafting part to the game... I'm up for it. I liked that part in WOW, but they were really under powered in WOW.

Currently, we are on page two of #Destiny trending! Thank you all for your feedback! A few other things to add to the mix : - Killing certain high level enemies (raids and strikes maybe) would allow you use a trait from them with your gear (imagine Vex plating on your armor or some hive bones sharpened to a point on your gun) This could be purely aesthetic or impact the performance of your gear in some way. - Keep stats with your custom weapon (Kills, Boss Kills, ...) and allow this to be a currency for some of the steps to becoming Legend! Bungie could make this process of making your own gear part of the ultimate endgame. We have lore behind the existing exotic gear. Each item has it's own story from Thorn to Juju and all the others. Bungie's one liner for Destiny is "Become Legend". What we are talking about here in this forum exemplifies that mantra. Become Legend, Guardians. Keep the conversation going and share this! Much appreciated!

What about extending this to the Jumpships and Sparrows as well, Like the wings off of "Quite Content Damsel", but you want the nose off of "High Water", and the guns off of "Outrageous Fortune". Then apply a onetime use Shader it, and viola new, custom Jumpship.

From Fawkzi : "only be able to transfer traits from legendary gear, so that way you still have to earn the progression in order to get what you want rather than just being able to do it with anything and everything whenever you want, that way you still have to earn it but don't have to worry about picking a piece of gear that is utterly useless to you." The idea was to be able to take special traits from other gear and use them on your custom piece of Destiny history your shaping. Basic traits like sights, hold more ammo for this or that, lightweight and the like; would all be available at a cost. This would eliminate waiting for the right drop of a weapon that has the abilities you want. These basic traits are not game-changers like some of the special abilities so why not let us pick and choose?

Bungie promised this and lied..... They also lied about the size of the maps a good story and making your choices matter...
-
Dude this sound awesome, test it bungie! Work you magic. The idea is audacious.
-
Nice, but won't ever happen because bungie is lazy as you could tell from the loot system at the moment, gear variety and the story itself.

Edited by Thumbstick Hero: 9/26/2014 2:12:07 PMThanks for all the feedback everyone! I greatly appreciate it more than you all know. Let's keep the conversation going. If you like the topic, share it with your friends, clanmates, randoms, whoever. Keep it going! I really enjoy hearing all of your ideas and there has been a ton of good points made. Agreed, this need more responses
Allow players to take a low level item that they like the look of and make it into something awesome
I'd settle for Guild Wars 2's Transmutation system, you take a piece of armour you like the look of and paste the look on to the piece of armour you like the stats of using Transmutation Charges.

Should have been here in 2013. So you could be told no just like everyone else who has a -blam!-ing imagination.
-
That would be awesome
-
I think it could become overpowered at the point from common to uncommon to rare and so forth because you'd have to pick your weapon attributes or perks(whatever you want to call them) in order for them to reach its final stages so maybe you like the look of one gun and the stats on another. From there you just switch the skin on that gun, but instead of making it as simple as saying I have two guns make this one look like that one here is some glimmer to do so at that point you could incorporate the grind you were talking about to do so. Which would be more rewarding in the end.
-
This is the most awesome idea I've seen for this game. This needs to happen! I don't like dismantling items I like just because something else is stronger. This would be so cool.
-
That would be great! Are you thinking you would be able to change the appearance or just take something you like and make it into a higher quality item?
-
wont happen, bungie dont care.
-
-
I think this would work well, the exotics in the game have the same generic skill tree pattern. A few normal upgrades. Some attack power. A couple more normals the the exotic and loads of attack power. It would be cool of each upgrade you wanted in the tree had to come from a different weapon you had. I like this idea. You should post this in the feedback section too. I think that area gets checked more for this kind of thing Just know that eventually if this gets implemented that you will be killed by a "fluffy bunny" or a "fart gun". Possibly worse, I've seen some bad stuff on the forums haha
-
I was literally just talking about this with my friends the other day, or the idea of something like it anyway. This is an awesome idea and I do sincerely hope it's added at some point in the future.
-
i like it too though they might wanna add a naming sensor other wise we'll see a lot of armor and guns named after genitals
-
Bu-bu-bu-BUMP!
-
Hmmmm I like it, exotics weapons would actually be one of a kind.
-
Now that is a fine idea.Several other games out have a crafting ability.
