Destiny has been out for two weeks, I finally finished my full review of Detiny after having played it extensively, and looking at the forums I find it hilarious that the game is pretty much exactly what people were saying Halo 4 was.
Its single player story requires, in no uncertain terms, for the player to access content outside of the game, which is still one of the most persistent criticisms leveled against Halo 4, even though it isn't true. To a somewhat keen eye (IE: someone casually paying attention), one can easily get through Halo 4 knowing what's happening, and any additional information one may want out of curiosity can be found in the Terminals, which further enrich the story. In Destiny, you have no clue what's happening, and must refer to the Grimoire cards you unlock on Bungie.net by playing the game. Similar to the Halo 4 terminals which were accessed on Waypoint, but the Terminals were not imperative to the game itself.
Now one may say that the backstory of Halo 4 is told in the books and you must pay money to get those. To that I say, the books cover the backstory as they rightfully should, enriching the narrative but not telling the central story. The equivalent in Destiny is being forced to buy the expansions to get the story that should have been there already--except they're more expensive, and probably going to be less enthralling, and yet absolutely necessary to understand what you already paid 60 dollars for.
Even the multiplayer suffers from the problems people had with it in Halo 4. People called Halo 4 a CoD clone, yet between Destiny and Halo 4, Destiny has power weapon spawns, numerous one hit kill weapons, ADS, faster kill times, ubiquitous shotgun camping and even rewarding better players with abilities that count nearly as free kills, as well as stat effecting abilities and perks and an overall hopelessly unbalanced multiplayer that comes more down to luck than skill. Of course Halo 4 had its fair share of CoD attributes most of which I detest, but at least the physics, gunplay and movement were decidedly still quite Halo, preserving (in a diminished sense) a degree of skill. Destiny, like CoD, takes the RPG elements of a PVE game and applies them to a PVP setting.
Just an observation I made when I saw everyone defending the Grimoire cards, even some known Halo 4 haters who have complained about these very aspects. Destiny is what everyone said Halo 4 was, except worse.

So am I the only one that liked Halo 4 and Destiny in this forum?

Edited by Seldser: 9/24/2014 8:18:16 PMdid you say that the expansions are more expensive than buying books? because at full price the expansions together are $40, while the books providing the back story for Halo 4 number at 6, costing $30-40 each at release books aren't cheap buddy

The only saving grace is having Peter Dinklage not saying egghead every two sentences.
-
Lmao, Halo always had a ton of one shot kill weapons, ams (Derp, fps), and everything else is invalid. I still would prefer IGN over your review... More like an opinion...
-
It is a sad thing to admit halo 4 had more of a story than Destiny.
-
The comparison doesn't really work, first game in a series vs the fourth game.
-
4>destiny

And Halo 4 was fun... Until that Christmas and all the 5 year olds got the game from mommy and daddy and started crying on the mic every time they got killed and/or teabagged. Then there was the camping that made a lot of people quit playing. Destiny will probably have the same fate.

Wait, numerous one hit kill weapons? Numerous? No. Shotguns and snipers both have one hit kills that are purely situational. Shotguns require you to be close quarters, and snipers require you hit only in the head. That's the only one hit kill area. Now, there are also hand cannons, but you need to be very accurate, and they tend to have awful range. They basically suck. Also, a book you have to pay for is a lot different than grimoire that you're acquiring as you play. Sure, it's still a shitty way of telling a story, but it's much better than having to buy a book. The time to kill in Destiny isn't even remotely close to Call of Duty. It takes nearly a full magazine sometimes. In Call of Duty, it has always been in and around the 3 to 8 area (depending on range). Personally, the long time to kills may require some additional skill, but they also promote the use of vehicles and camping. People are scared to get into gunfights because of the high time to kill. It's somewhat ridiculous, actually. I don't care what you prefer. It's all cool and I respect your opinions, but Destiny is onl similar to Call of Duty in the sense that they are both first person shooters.

Destiny's story doesn't even come close to touching Halo 4's campaign in terms of character development and emotional involvement from the player. People actually teared up at Halo 4's dramatic ending. There is nothing in Destiny's campaign/cut scenes that even comes close. Destiny's story is as bad as some of the Battlefield campaigns.

Halo 4 was not made by Bungie
-
i feel honestly ripped off with the story. Dlc expansions are supposed to be just that, Expansions!. I wanted to play and be content with a full game and a complete story mode and then be excited that there was still more to come! Instead i was sold half of a game and told i had to wait and purchase the rest of it later. This really chaps my ass.

Honestly I like Destiny a lot and I've been enjoying it so much. But every time I play there is always something that feels like it's missing it.I just cant figure out what it is.And no it's not the story or gameplay but something.

People are not getting pissed at Destiny because it's the first bloody game in the franchise and that's how the game is. There was no "Destiny 0.5" before it that played differently.

I thought halo 4 had a pretty decent story and generally enjoyed the game. Destiny has a story equal to a pile of dog s**t and having to buy dlcs constantly is going to be the death of all next gen games. Every company is going to start doing it.
-
And look what happened to halo 4s population after 2 weeks it sank faster than the Titanic.
-
The cards being in the browser is a piss poor design decision, I'll grant you that, we don't even have stupid waypoint this go.
-
#Destiny, because I would love to see their reactions.
-
Well said, better than I ever could have.
-
You never had to go out of the game to understand the story of Halo 4. It also sounds like you have no idea wtf you're talking about. Halo4>Destiny.

Sums up my thoughts on this. It's scary how Destiny serves as an amazing piece of satire for us. I remember asking H4 Haters what they'd do if Destiny made the same mistakes as Halo 4, to which they replied they would give Destiny the same treatment and then they would quickly add in that Bungie wouldn't be dumb enough to make those mistakes. (I also used a similar question asking what they'd do if Bungie made Halo 4 the way it turned out.) Well gentlemen, as much as I hate to say it, my hypothetical scenario is now a reality. I've seen some people go through with what they've told me, but just like I expected there are those that are naturally hypocrites, only giving Destiny the benefit of the doubt because Bungie made it.

You can't compare CoD to any of these games. The gameplay is way too different I can't even begin to imagine how people think halo is a copy. But I do agree that it is very unfair that we have to pay to get the expansion pass just to continue a very unfinished and unclear story.
