Exotic weapon review: Thorn: There's a reason that Dredgen Yor ruled The Crucible with this weapon.

My wife and I have both been lucky enough to obtain and complete the Thorn bounty (she got hers first, because RNGsus loves her more) and, after upgrading and testing it in various scenarios (Strikes, Missions, Crucible) we have come to a consensus. This. Gun. Is. Awesome. To start off, Thorn itself was not easy to obtain. Between visiting puss-face to get the weapon, killing his friends to awaken it, and then using Void damage to kill Guardians in the Crucible, it was a bit of a grind. It was much easier for her Warlock, because Voidwalker (My poor Hunter...). After that, teamwork sets in as we went back to puss-face, gave him the cold shoulder, and killed every Hallowed Wizard in sight with a mixture of bullets and curse words until Xyor showed up and fell in line with the rest of her (??? apparently Wizards are female, but are not called Witches because Destiny) floating, screeching friends. The weapon itself starts off fairly decent. Like most hand cannons, I found it easy to aim and smirked each time I 1-shotted anything that didn't have a shield or yellow health bar. However, with a 4-second reload time, you're gonna wanna consider getting a glove with Hand Cannon reload speed if you aren't a Gunslinger Hunter with Chain of Woe and a good aim. Once MotD (Mark of the Devourer) was unlocked, this weapon simply became even more badass. The effect turns the target a sickly green color and deals a fairly good amount of lingering damage for about 3.5-4 seconds. Even hitting a Cabal Phalanx's shield will still pass the DoT effect onto the Phalanx itself. The DoT effect, however, truly shines in The Crucible. Both my wife and I found ourselves holding back a satisfied smirk as we used this weapon in Crucible. With the DoT damage taken into account, all it takes is 2-3 shots to guarantee a kill (depending on the class and their toughness). The number of times where we would just watch someone run away, then spontaneously fall over dead from the lingering damage was almost too high. Even if the opponent manages to get the kill on you, as long as you get that 3rd shot off, you can watch from your deathcam with a smile on your face as they walk around for 2 seconds, then drop dead and give you the last laugh. Overall, if your aim is true and you fire a hand cannon decently enough, this weapon will rip apart any Guardian who gets in your way. And with the interchangeable mods to increase range or stability, Thorn also gives a balanced customization option, so you can change it to whatever fits you best. Overall, Thorn is a badass weapon. The power of a hand cannon, combined with the lingering damage, makes this a very brutal and effective weapon, whether it be against trash mobs, their tougher, more resilient leaders, or fellow Guardians, Thorn is a powerful and amazing weapon in any situation.

 • Great post, very informative in helping me decide which bounty I wanted to take.
How many years did it take you to right that, though?
