After Level 20 - What to do, what to do?

I am a fresh Level 20 Warlock (SS). I just would like to get some suggestions on what to do in order to get to higher levels/get good gears. Vanguard Level 1, Cryptarch Level 1. Should I work on leveling these up and buy things or fight until good gear drops? Clueless here. Should I go on strikes, patrols, replay story missions? Thanks.

Do your dailies and weeklies to increase you vanguard marks. You will need those to get better weapons a day armor
