Many of you are familiar with the perception that the Cryptarch is a conman. However, today I will prove to you that he is not just a conman, HE IS THE GREATEST CONMAN IN ALL OF HISTORY. To begin with, I am making the assumption that the Cryptarch is an immortal. Possibly exposed to the Traveler in some manner. Not sure how this would go about exactly, but trust me, it did. My sources that I will not reveal(Too dangerous man, this goes all the way to the top.) tell me so. The Traveler is not a sentient being, but a tool. A tool with limited power. The reality of the collapse is that it was caused by some solar event that knocked out contact with the other human bases on the planets other than Earth. This, in addition to raids from hostile aliens, forced Humanity to remain on Earth. In response to this, the Exos were created to defend the planet. However, the Traveler suffered some sort of catastrophic error, and lost much of its power. This had some sort of shockwave that erased the memories of the mechanical Exos. The Traveler now only has enough power to protect a small area of the planet, the city, and a few other things. In the aftermath of the collapse, the Cryptarch had an idea on how to get rich. He came up with a plan "Invent a religion to get money". Rahool then began to wear a mask, going only by "The Speaker". He began to preach to people the sacrifice of the traveler, the danger of the darkness and all that stuff. After many years of the idea circulating, it took root, and became popular belief over centuries. From here, the Cryptarch invented the Ghosts, which received some of the little power the Traveler had left. Testing showed him that they could revive the dead and imbue them with some of that little power, but erased the memory. This was perfect! Yet more people to indoctrinate for his master plan. All the while telling people that "THE DARKNESS" was the cause of the collapse, that all the hostile aliens were its pawn and that they must be destroyed, the old empire reclaimed! After creating his army from the dead, with no memory, he created one more machine. One to take his place as "the Speaker". This is why the Speaker wears the mask: SO THAT YOU WILL NOT SEE THE MACHINE BENEATH! From here, the real part of his plan, he took on the identity of "the Cryptarch", establishing a monopoly on decoding "engrams". Guardians needed gear to fight the "Darkness", so he did a few things. He collected these "Motes of Light" from his Speaker machine, and then recycled them into creating more Guardians. These Guardians would have to come to him to receive some of their equipment, so he charged a price. The Cryptarch may also be secretly controlling Banshee-44, who could simply be a brainwashed puppet, further feeding into his pocket in a way I am going to explain shortly. Why is it we haven't seen the Royals who supposedly control the city? Perhaps it is that they too are non-existent, created by the Cryptarch to control the city entirely!!! Even worse, the fact that the Guardians, his puppets, are isolated from the rest of the people. They are kept close in the tower, fed lies and sent to the stars to fuel the Cryptarch and to bring back resources and knowledge to help further his skill at extracting rarer equipment. In exchange, he will often dump lower tier weapons on Guardians, manufactured by Banshee-44. Regular customers, those that have a higher "level" with him, as the term is, may have a higher chance of him letting you keep the nicer gear. It is possible he trades some of these highly valuable weapons off to some other, unknown party. He may also simply strip them down to raw parts and sell them, recycling lower grade parts into more common rank-and-file equipment. So you see, the world you know is ALL A LIE.
