Xur is the one who finally broke my spirit.
Gather round and listen to my tale of woe
I'm a lvl25, going thru the same unrewarding daily bounties/loot cycle as everyone else, but still generally having fun and hoping for that next big score. I get an exotic bounty for Super Good Advice early last week so I have to wait for Xur to show up on the weekend to continue. No biggie. Friday comes and I have exactly 13 coins, and I must choose between the MG piece or that spiffy Titan helmet. I go MG piece, figuring it'll be easy to score just one more coin. Play all night, no coin. Play like 6 hours Saturday, still no coin.
Finally on Sunday the first Public Event I do scores me a coin. You may see where this is going but I didn't. I rush back to the tower and lo and behold, Xur is gone. I frantically run all around the tower figuring maybe he just moved... no luck. I resort to the ancient codex known as Google and discover that weekend means Friday and Saturday only in -blam!-ing Destinyland. WHAT THE -blam!-
And then, I just felt... emptiness. All that work for no reward finally killed my addiction. I just have no desire to play anymore. I could tolerate all the abuse up until that last straw. There is just too much bullshit artificially extending the game. The miserly loot system. The weekly marks cap. The goddamn Cryptarch kicking you in the balls. And Xur, Mr More Days Off Than Congress. The game is indeed fun to play over and over for a while, much like Halo. I think that was the idea behind the game: "people love playing Halo missions over and over, so let's give them a reason!" Unfortunately it is just not the same. For one thing, Patrols really need a difficulty select.
I hope you guys at Bungie see this and maybe it can explain the reason so many people are being turned off. Take it to a meeting or something. I'm not mad or anything, but I just felt like explaining my sorry tale and why I now just can't play anymore. It's just too much abuse.
I've loved you since downloading the Marathon demo over AOL on release day, Bungie, but you are Ray Rice. :P
EDIT: Thank you for all the likes and positive comments!!! :D They far outweigh all the idiot fanboy trolls. Good to know so many others are as annoyed by this App Store F2P bullshit as I am.
NEW EDIT: I was actually still playing a bit with my friends because they wanted to do Queen's Wrath for shards.I had renewed purpose for my casual gaming. I only got to play 2 or 3 missions and now they killed that too. STOP ABUSING ME BUNGIE :'(

I told him to take it to you to reveal its godly content lol. What did you give him?" Cryptarch: "An exotic helmet, of course...but I had to make sure it wasn't for his class lmao!" Xur: "That's my boy! Now, they'll have to come back to me for more. At this rate, I'll be able to retire in a few months! Anyway, what do you have lined up for the rest of the week?" Cryptarch: "You know...just the usual. Turning blue and purple engrams into green boots!"

Queen's Wrath is giving away gauranteed legendary armor drops. I also saw on here that if you dismatle them you get a lot of acendant shards so you can upgrade other armour that might be better than what you get from queens wrath.

The thing that gets me the most is how NO ONE at Bungie thought about the "randomness" of the rewards system. As in, I've got enough Axiom Coven gear to set up a damn store in the tower myself - and sell some of it. While on the other hand, you can actually get gear for a class that isn't even yours? WTH? What type of Roulette Wheel of misfortune is THIS? Then on top of that, with the OTHER gear meant for that OTHER class - what do you do with it? You can't sell or trade it to another player - b/c Bungie has limited the bartering of goods to only certain NPC's who N E V E R have **** worth even gazing over. They restock emblems - AT BEST - and just HOW is that helping your Guardian progress through the game? This game (Campaign and especially multiplayer)... ...or maybe I put that backwards - had SO MUCH Potential! And to all the fanboys holding on to this false hope that the "yet to be released" stuff is going to somehow SAVE THE DAY. MARK MY WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'll be venturing into some dark, damp and smelly spot - fighting off a horde of enemies - only to face - YOU GUESSED IT - another BULLET SPONGE Type Boss... And your reward? Axiom Coven II... or something simliar. *I am the Alpha, and the Omega.*

2 Replieslol, if missing Xur it what breaks your back, be glad you never picked up the bounty for pocket infinity, one of the easiest steps in any of them, all you have to do is dismantle stuff.... 10 rare fusion rifles, and since then, I've only seen Banshee sell them when I was at work and couldn't get on, gods, what I would have given to be able to buy them from the bungie website. the games been out exactly 2 weeks, and you're complaining cause you don't have the best gear there is to have!!!! Gods, the loot system is fine, what would be broken is if you couldn't buy legendaries, or they paled in comparison to drop legendaries, for crying out loud, the game lets you buy exotics, the best gear in the game, and you can just buy it!!!! any other rpg you'd have to kill the hardest boss in the game like 200 times to get what you want.

It would be great if a difficulty could be implemented, but it would also separate most of the other players from some good gameplay. There have been a few times where I have stumbled onto a public event where a bunch of low levels were having a difficult time taking out the target, and to then run over and help them finish off the target before they can get away. Feels good to help others, and not to mention those extra motes of light that are rewarded sometimes. :D

4 RepliesSorry but I don't find the loot cycle unrewarding at all. Even if the gear I want doesn't drop I get marks and rep towards getting new gear. I bought my first piece of legendary gear recently, I just got a legendary helm from Queen's Wrath, I have two legendary special weapons and am saving up glimmer to buy an exotic shotgun. Plus all this stuff needs to be upgraded and that will definitely take some time to get the mats for that. Overall, I'm not hurting for things to do and have been making very steady progress. I really don't see the problem with being "only" lvl 25 when the game has been out just over two weeks. If the game let you lvl up any faster then people would say it was too short (a charge people oddly level at it right now). Also the weekly marks cap is great. It means people like me, who can't play all day every day, won't fall hopelessly behind those who do. Also, if you think is F2P nonsense, I have to question if you've played any F2P games? I've played several and gave up on them because of the insane grinds, Warfame comes to mind most prominently. It's really a great game and honestly, I would consider it competition for Destiny except that the grind is nuts. The grind in Destiny is very reasonable and really just typical of any RPG/MMO type game. I mean, hey, if it's not for you it's not for you. Not everyone has to like this game but your complaints just don't seem very solid to me.

15 RepliesI feel ya, got my first legendary item yesterday and it was for a class I'm not playing. Xur and the Cryptarch, they're jerks. Blue engrams turning into uncommon items is an insult. Motes of light are alright if Xur wants them, but I'm not about to shop with the speaker. I do a lot of bounties and crucible but it always feels like my vanguard/crucible marks are getting less, not more. No matter how hard I try I usually score last place or second to last in the crucible on a good day. I still haven't bought anything from anyone outside of my $2,500 dead orbit cloak, and I don't even know what my dead orbit reputation is doing for me. Barely qualified for the raid that I haven't started yet. I don't qualify for the nightfall strikes and I'm not so sure I ever will at this rate. Will we ever see Xur's past inventories again, I have no idea. You can't plan to buy his stuff unless you're farming and grinding 25 hours a day. By the time I have a realistic amount, next week's cool item will be worth a few more strange coins than I have. Maybe he'll have stuff aimed at a class I don't play, or a weapon I don't use. I have no idea! If the patience holds out, then I will wait and see. Maybe the next raid will be for levels 30 only, just to further crush our motivation. I don't even know what my point was, but I share in your feeling of hopeless desolation as you watch everyone around you become legend.

First week, first Xur visit, that exotic hunter helmet I wanted. 13 Strange coins, I had 12 as of friday night. Had nothing to do but gaming all weekend so great I'll probably find one more. Well sunday morning, 5:15 AM, I finally get one ! I hurry to the tower, almost falling asleep during the loading screen, crash my ship in the tower courtyard and run downstairs only to find that he was gone. I just stood there, silent. Empty and silent. But guess what ? I didn't stop playing for that stupid-as-f* reason full of bullsh* because I'M NOT 5 YEARS OLD. Jeez guys, grow a pair, and stop bitching about such stupid not-even-problems...

1 ReplyIt's not about patrols, it's about strikes. I feel like you can complain all you want but there's no way they'll fix all this stuff in one week or even month. The loot system would have to be revamped, but while I agree that the caps are annoying possibly, I play an hour a day and don't reach them.

This happened to me the first weekend Xur was there. I got my 13th Strange Coin at 3:20am, and he'd left the Tower 20 minutes prior. There will be more gear. It gets better. Besides, I'm a warlock, and he had Sunbreakers again when he visiting this last weekend. So that helped. Haha
