So I reached level 20 and then (like everyone I guess?) wondered how to get beyond that point. So I googled and I watched Youtube videos and the excellent ones like highonPCP that showed how to "farm" on the moon and later that one that first showed the location on earth with that cave that the whole wold now seems to be farming. So I spent hours there (oh and that mission on the moon where you kill repeated 25 glimmer foe then die to boost glimmer) and I got tons of glitter and tons of engrams and up to level 22.5 but I noticed that I was only ever getting green or blue engrams. I even went back to the tower from time to time and the "post master" there said I had a (purple) "legendary" item but when I received it the thing just gave me three blue engrams. Then it struck me - the three cults and the vanguard quartemaster (and even your own vanguard leader) have loads of purple stuff on offer but it ALL says as a minimum requirement that you need vanguard rank 2 (or faction rank 2). So is it the case that: (a) whether you work for FWC or Dead Orbit or New Monarchy it's only just different to plain "Vanguard Quartermaster" in the actual range of whay you can buy? Or is there some other reason to join a faction? (I don't do "Crucible"). (b) you just can't get legendary stuff (purple orbs) until you have a vanguard (or faction) rank of 2 or more? If so then all these videos about farming both engrams and glitter are all very well but at the end of the day what REALLY matters more than anything is Vanguard (/faction) reputation and that basically means racking up lots of 10's and 25's in patrol missions or doing boutines that deliver 50 or 100? It sure would have made this game a whole lot easier if Bungie/Activision just explained all this up-front! I know some of this is all about "discovery" and working it out for yourself (or being (mis!)led by some wiki or video that don't know what they are talking about) but if the discovery you make is that you spent hours doing pointless farming as you were never going to get a purple one then it's a little annoying. :-( (BTW I'm at about 22.5 but vanguard rank is just 1 and 1330/2000). I have a feeling I *should* have been concentrating on reputation and nothing else (but no one said!).
