What is Farming?

Lately I've seen multiple posts in which people will complain about other individuals "Farming". These people then describe how they themselves are far superior because they are able to gain their gear/loot through "Legitimate" and "Correct" ways. Now what exactly is this ridiculous and heinous Farming sensation sweeping the nation? Don't worry baby birds, Momma's gonna feed you. Farming: to make one's living by growing crops or keeping livestock. Although this is the legitimate meaning of farming, it is not what we're about to discuss. Farming within the video game community can be known by many names such as "Grinding". It is the act of repetitively completing an objective to gain the sought benefits by doing so. An example of this would be to kill the same enemy twice, because he offers a high yield of Experience Points, or possibly killing him 5 times because he has a 15% drop rate of a rare item you'd like to acquire. Farming is basically just repeating an action so you can benefit from it, whether it is gear or points of some kind. Within Destiny, people are complaining about this "Farming" saying its unfair and clearly a game exploit. This could not be further from the truth. If you believe you're method of play is not farming, please read further. Lets say: -You play the story multiple times over for experience... Congratulations, you just farmed the story for experience! -You play 15 strike missions for vanguard marks... Congratulations, you just farmed the strike missions for gear, exp, and points! -You play PVP in the Crucible so you can gain marks and purchase Crucible armor... Congratulations! You just farmed the crucible for marks and gear! -You shot at a cave for 2 hours because the drop rate of the minions there is high and they spawn continuously... Congratulations! You just farmed a Cave for gear and exp! -You patrol the area with bounties in hand, trying to gain what you can from each... Congratulations! You just farmed bounties and patrol missions! I hope you understand this. Farming comes in multiple shapes and forms. Regardless of the method, it's ALL FARMING. Every game has this available. EVERY. GAME. You play Call of Duty? You just farmed kills for weapon attachments. You play Dark Souls? You just farmed a boss for his souls. You play Forza? You just farmed races for their money so you can buy a new car. You play Minecraft? Well... You literally just farmed... Like pumpkins and stuff. You basically need to grind/farm just to get achievements in games now. I'm going completely overkill with all this because some people are actually idiotic enough to need it. They believe that shooting at a cave is an exploit while what they practice is justified. THE MORAL OF THE STORY I could care less what people do. If they want to spend hours shooting at a cave, go for it. If they want to spend hours killing bosses, go for it. In the end you're all doing the same thing. Farming. I couldn't tell you how many strike missions I've done. It ridiculous. I've gained the majority of my gear that way. Yesterday I tried the cave and got my 2nd Exotic. Either way, both methods achieved the same goal. Stop taking up space on the forums with complaints about cheaters. You're guilty of the same act. I doubt anyone read this far. But if you did, then congrats. Now shut up and go play the game. WAIT I HAVE AN UPDATE Heres how to avoid farming COMPLETELY. -Purchase a game. -Play said game, from beginning to end. -Do not replay ANY levels, even if you missed an item or something. -Put down the controller. -Dispose of the game. -Never touch it again. So all of you who oppose Farming, you should probably sell Destiny before you become one of us sinners as well :c
