*Please read before voting if you do not know the various forms* The Golden Rule has taken many forms, and has been used in a variety of cultures. Many different teachers, however, took different spins on this "rule" and used it in different contexts within their teachings. This is not a comprehensive list, (and there is overlap) but I have added the forms I figure are the most commonly thought of. Reciprocity
This can be seen as the "basic" form. It can be summed up by what you would normally think of the golden rule. Don't do to others what you would not want them to do to you. "Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing." – Thales "Zi Gong asked, saying, "Is there one word that may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The Master said, "Is not reciprocity such a word?" – Confucius
Humility
This is seen in various religious forms of the Golden Rule. Traces can be seen particularly in the Bahá'í, as well as Christian faiths "Blessed is he who preferreth his brother before himself."
Altruism
This is particularly seen in the teachings of Jesus. The parable of the Good Samaritan tells the story of a Jew in need who is helped by a Samaritan (his enemy). As Samaritans and Jews hated eachother, and yet the Samaritan went out of his way to help this man (tending his wounds, feeding him, leaving money) we see that Jesus brought in helping your enemies. He taught to treat even your enemies as your brothers.
God's Justice
This is taught in various faiths, including Islam and Christianity. In essence, it says that we should always treat everyone as better than ourselves, because God will judge. Similar to the Altruism form, this also adds the fact that God will judge, “...and you should forgive And overlook: Do you not like God to forgive you? And Allah is The Merciful Forgiving.” — Qur’an
Existentialism
This, in essense teaches that you helping another person helps people as a whole. Therefore, by helping someone else, you are helping yourself.
