So, having read the forums since way before launch I can surmise there are two types of players. There are the FPSers that expect guaranteed rewards for everything. Events, Crucible, Strikes, Raid.
And the MMOers that understand the majority of what Bungie want to do with the game. Like RNG, and lockouts and about not getting anything handed to you for nothing. About the Grind.
What does everybody else think?
Edit: I think a better classification would be RPGers than MMOers.

You put RNG and "about not getting anything handed to you for doing nothing" in the same Damn sentence. Okay, I'm not even.
-
Yep. I agree I'm all for the grind it's what makes the levels mean something, especially the gear.
-
Never played a MMO or RPG before, played a lot of Halo so more a FPS player. But I really dont't think you should get stuff guaranteed. Not saying I get this loot system though.
-
And then there's people like myself who are just playing the game for what it is, like a normal rational person.
-
Yeah there are stuck up MMO players who believe beating AI is skill, then there are shooter players who are used to getting rewards for proving themselves in an actual skill based enviroment.
-
There are 10 types of people in the world, people who understand binary, and people who don't.

Edited by xJoeHoward: 9/23/2014 1:54:19 AMGood post bud. I Completely agree with you.
-
As an MMO player who enjoys the grind as well as earning rep and purchasing specific items with points, I am very content with destiny. Though I can easily see why the more FPS oriented players are disappointed.

Edited by Koopaa: 9/23/2014 1:19:15 AMI agree completely all I ever seem to read on this thread is people complaining about how they always get top 3 in Crucible but never get anything good and all people do is farm. Am i crazy or is farming one of the biggest parts of an MMO? I agree that there are many other ways of obtaining items but I see no problem in farming. What i do see problem with is the fact that drops aren't based on level or difficulty. I love RNG and grinding but I just cant stand that killing level 3 enemies poses the same reward as doing strike after strike on high difficulties.
-
We have Xbox vs PS. PC vs console, Warlocks vs titans vs hunters, And now we have PvE vs PvP'ers? Sometimes I wonder if we are better of without the internet.
-
I kinda feel cheated that when I beat a higher difficulty strike I'm not rewarded I get crappy legendary engram that turns into freaking blue that is even worse than the blues I already have... Sheesh. I so far so no difference in loot drops for doing higher difficulty strikes. The only benefit is like q couple of exrtra vanguard points and reputation.
-
No, it is still FPSers and MMOers. I think we RPGers are somewhere in between. Just ignore us as we search every chest on Mars again....
-
I just think people had different expectations. I love to grind and do co op with friends so I love the game ATM. Can't speak on pvp since I don't play it as much but personally I think that if rewards were easy to come by everyone would be max level with all the great gear by now.
-
well i love FPS games but ive been playing MMORPGs for around 10 years now....and really...people who think about this game as FPS are just stupid....I would compare Destiny to WoW (i hate WoW but my friends were talking over and over about it so i have my share of knowledge about it...) and if Bungie is gonna expand the story and other things (like Blizzard is doing with WoW) it will be one of the best games most people would play....(at least Destiny wont end up like MAG...with servers shut down some time ago...) Anyone who doesnt like Destiny....stop -blam!-ing flaming....and crying...throw the game to the trash and go fap or play pong morons.... ( NOTHING IS -blam!-ING PERFECT IN THIS WORLD....SO DONT EXPECT DESTINY TO BE PERFECT, COS YOU ARE NOT)
-
The 2 types i see are ones who use Treasure cave and ones that don't. I know this makes no sense. I am neither of what you stated.
-
I agree
-
This is not a -blam!-ing MMO
-
The way I've been seeing it, the traditional fps folks think the loot system is terrible (its a bit disappointing when legendaries decode down to rare, but compared to mmo's, it pretty much rains loot) and the traditional mmo/rpg crowd think the crucible is garbage due to the comparatively tiny time to kill and fast reaction time required to succeed. Thankfully, we have forums where we can share knowledge and tactics to make us all better... And by that I mean hurl insults and stick fingers in our ears because we all know everything better than the next guy >_>

That would be pretty spot on imo.

Edited by TheUnknownMerc: 9/22/2014 5:49:49 PMActually i was thinking more 3 types, FPSers who expect gameplay, and then there are the RPGers that expect story...then the MMOers who expect look and grinding... yours still works though

There's 6 types of destiny players Vanguard New monacry Cruible Fwc Dead orbit The traveler
-
Wouldn't mmos players be used to loot tables with specific items found from certain bosses or events and most of the time(depending on the game) guaranteed at least one. The complete RNG system is one of the most hated things about GW2. They would also be used to quests with good quest lines. Maybe some hidden quests that lead to unique cool stuff! And since we aren't in 2008 some quests that dynamically effect the world. But what did we get? Beacons of worthlessness and and identical dynamic defense points.

Destiny isn't a grind. You can buy a full legendary set in 8 days and buy exotics from a vendor. EXOTICS FROM A VENDOR. If it took 8 days to get a single piece of armor, that might be a grind. What we have now are vendors who just hand out legendary gear for almost no effort. As a long time FPS and MMO player, I'm disappointed on many fronts. AI is too stupid, gear is too easy to get. The game needs the difficulty knob tweaked from 1 to 11.

Im an MMOer.

The loot system suck , you deny this , you are the third type of destiny players : RETARDS !
