How the loot system works on destiny (Very Helpful)
So since the launch of destiny a bunch of guys farmed and farmed some engrams. After gathering 290 green engrams, 250 blue engrams and 55 purple engrams (they're far harder to farm), here's what they found: [spoiler]http://imgur.com/CxQg9NY[/spoiler]

Thats messed up, the rates should match up for each one. ie. if blue engrams drop blue gear 60% of the time, purple should drop purple 60% of the time. As is, legendary engrams are more like blue.5 engrams.

I have 65 hours played... have looted 30+ legendary engrams, and the only legendarys I have are from marks which are assured. Also, I bought the 23 mote of light engram, turned it in, and got nothing out of it. I have yet to be able to contact anybody from bungie because they do not have customer support anywhere.

5 RepliesI"m perfectly OK with the decryption rate though I've found over 300 Blues and have yet to get a Legendary out of one. What I want to know is why over the last two days I've had two friend combine for 17 collected purple engrams in just the few hours I played with them and yet I haven't found a single one in the entirety of my time playing (over 50 hours, 24 of which spent over level 24)? It can't be chance, the odds simply do not add up to chance.

The one thing I don't agree with their math is they didn't take into effect of when they started their cryptography was level one and it increased when they started the study and from what I read they didn't take that into effect and I believe it does effect what you get if you are a higher level cryptographer.

1 ReplyStill think it's stupid how often purples turn into blues. I can understand not promising legendaries. But maybe tone down the percent from 60 to 45-50%. Also i'm wondering what the criptarch's rank is even for. He doesn't sell better things. If it effects how often something becomes something else that would be great. But that doesn't seem the case as mine is 17 and i still get too many blues from purples. My only other guess is the quality of the rarity of items. For example for my hunter the rustburner set is the best blue set and i get it almost exclusively.

They need to switch the green and purple percentages on purple engram. I'm getting too lucky since all i get from legendary engrams are green gear.

12 RepliesOne thing that seems to help a TON is to have a lower-level engram, decrypt it first, then decrypt the higher one. When I do that, I (nearly) always get that level of item. When I don't, green it is.

1 ReplyWell I've gotten strange coins as well as ascended shards or whatever they are called from legendary engrams, so the percentages might be even lower since they're not being taken into account.

Hmmm... Well I guess I'm lucky then, since I've gotten 6 legendaries from about 10 Legendary Engrams. (One of which I destroyed because I didn't know I could transfer Items between characters).

19 RepliesDoes leveling up your Cryptarch help with your chances of getting higher end engrams? I've heard it does and I've heard it doesn't so I'm unsure. I've opened 3 legendary engrams and have gotten 2 rares and 1 legendary. I got my first legendary from a rare engram, an auto rifle named Grim Citizen. Also not sure if this is true or not but I've heard you can get banned for farming, better safe than sorry guys.

1 ReplyThis is really crap. Bungie, you need to increase the chance of receiving Legendary's from Purple Engrams. Also, remove the chance of getting an Uncommon item. Getting an Uncommon is just way too unfair.

Not very happy, today I got 5 legendary engrams and all were rares.

Yeah, these seem about right. There's gotta be an exact percentage or odds, somewhere in the code. But I guess we'll never find out since Destiny isn't out for PC.

It's a start, but sample size is *much* too small to put any weight behind the accuracy of the purple - as it stands, result could be off by over a factor of 5X...
