when did gamers become a bunch of babies?

When I was a kid I played through Super Mario 3 on original NES for months on end trying to complete the entire game without dying once, not because I got an achievement, not because I got a shiny new gun, not because I wanted to flex my E-peen on the internet (the internet didn't exist), but because I liked the game and liked the challenge even more. It seems like there is never a good game anymore in the eyes of the gaming community because it's always going to be either too hard or too easy, and in this case it's both. Destiny is as hard, and as rewarding as you want it to be. If you only want to beat the campaign once and call it quits, good for you; go away and don't post it on the forums because nobody cares. If you are pissed because you don't have all purples yet, go google how to get purples and put more effort into it. If "X" game is better than Destiny because of "A", "B", and "C"; that's great, go play that game and stop wasting your time complaining about a game millions of people are playing and enjoying.

  • When did gamers become babies? Uh, when developers start putting out half assed crap. Play Divinity: Original Sins. Play the original Fallout games. Play the original thief games. Play San Andreas. Play the original HALO. Play the original COD games. Play the original Medal of Honor games. You're bringing up Mario, I bring up those games. Those games didn't require $500 million yet they easily have more content and an overall better experience. Here you are complaining about people being babies, but it's really people like YOU who are the problem. You become complacent and you will take WHATEVER these devs crap out and you'll force yourself to take it and enjoy it. But seriously, play a game like Divinity: Original Sin, whose budget is only $1 million. Destiny's budget was 500 times more and yet it managed to fail in every aspect. How in the hell is that even possible

    • Gamers became babies the moment developers started catering to their wants and needs. Games aren't original anymore because we forbid otherwise.

      • i spent $60 which i can't get back on this game after being horribly misled. I'm not normally one to whine over my lack of satisfaction with a game, god knows I bought plenty of GBC/GBA games as a kid because of a flashy box. However, when a developer with such a history of generally delivering somewhere in the ball park of what is advertised decides to give me exactly the opposite, I am going to do something the internet allows me to do. That is, complain on forums with a horde of fellow gamers in hopes that something will get changed. Hate on us if you want, just because we aren't satisfied doesn't mean we are whiners. Does anyone remember the preview vid for this game shown at some event where a guy and a chick were playing this game together and ended up in a completely awesome public event? I want THAT public event. Remember the epic cutscene footage they showed as a a narrator eluded to some deep tale full of mystery and adventure where legends would be formed? I want THAT experience. I get nothing i was promise so yes, sir, i am going to "whine" .

        • When did gamers become such crybabies: When developers became more money hungry. Mario was a -blam!-in awesome game man. No cut out content. Full story mode. New maps and new ways to play. Always entertaining. They created a game to capture gamers attention, not gamer's money. They didn't charge you for each world lol. Destiny gives you a half ass story and wants you to pay the other half.

        • Super Mario 3 huh? Nice! I started gaming back on the old Atari systems, and can remember when NES was a 'mind blowing epic' gaming experience :D I think gamers from our generation are a bit less 'spoiled' by the new shiny visuals/mechanics that today's games/consoles afford the modern gamer. (not to alienate all 'modern gamers' there's plenty of great young people that I've met on this title and others) Oh, and in direct answer to your "when did gamers become a bunch of babies" question... I blame PvP ;P

        • Can't keep everyone happy I guess... Main thing is if you enjoy the game don't let another's opinion ruin it for you :)

        • The second you were able to interact with real people over the internet while playing a game is when it all started going down hill but it my personal opinion console gaming died when the party system was introduced and learning team work and socializing became obsolete. also it really dose not help with the new types of games and industries that we need to deal with now. These days its all about the graphics and making money nothing else really matters to much so people eventually start seeing this and get pissed off. Another thing is as people started to get older they wanted more from their games and started to see them differently than when they were 12. So its not even that their expectations are high but they are realistic for their age group. for example when I was 15 i remember playing halo all day and night and when I play it now i get bored after and hour or so because I realize there really isnt a point in doing the same thing over and over and people feel the same way about destiny.

          • Since everybody got broadband. People have always been the same. They just didn't have a platform to voice their opinion from. Now they can easily tell the whole world how much they think a game sucks. People's expectations are going to rise as technology gets better. They're paying for a product/service, so they do have every right to say if they don't like it. I still don't understand why someone who clearly hates the game, continues to play it and then cries all day how bad it is. Turn off your console. Remove the disk. Trade it in. Play a game you like. Learn not to believe the hype and wait a couple weeks to see what the communities opinion is.

          • That is the Billion dollar question! I don't know what's wrong with Gamers right now. Bungie has been bullied by the Cry Babies. They don't put things in their game because of all the Cry Babies. Sociologically, Psycologically it is true perplexing the nature of these random creatures online these days.

            • Gamers became babies because much like the cartoonist of Calvin and Hobbes opined, "I am never happy with just happy, I want pure ELATION!" That is the EXACT problem. Too much is demanded without work, and too much expected without appreciation for what already is. But, on the bright side, the folks who keep whining about sill crap are also the worthless eaters who'll be first to die in the Zombiepocalypse!

            • I care more about quality and gameplay tbh, and in terms of gameplay Destiny is freaking awesome, but there is nothing wrong with suggesting or giving feedback about things that BUNGIE DOES NOT HAVE TO DO IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO, but feedback is given in hopes that the game will improve, Sony and XB hyped up these "next gen" consoles as being more like PC's, and in PC gaming games have gotten much needed improvement through patching and comprehensive updates to the build. Destiny is good, but damn it needs a few essential things to make it really good imo. We need some sort of way IN GAME not on PC, not on a tablet, not on a phone, IN GAME, to read Grimiores and lore, if this engine is as great as they say it is, then it should be flexible enough to afford an ingame journal or some kind, even 90s RPGs had ingame journals. We need a better way to coordinate with randoms, maybe have an ingame status you can change when you bring your Ghost up, that will place an icon next to your nameplate indicating you're LFG, etc. Not everyone is a social butterfly, people's personalities are not Bungie's responsibility, but other games do a fine job accommodating anti-socials. A map, my kingdom for a map.

              • Ancient gamer here...all of 40 years old, death is nigh. Imho, games got easy, especially of late, and the younger generation got used to this. Old arcade cabinets, Atari, and NES games were hard, came with little to no instruction, and there was no internet to look up cheats and shortcuts. I am really enjoying the difficulty of this game, it's reminded me how hard games used to be. And I'm proud to say my son is enjoying it as well, welcomes the challenge.

                • The true holy grail of gaming for our generation was during the days when Halo 2 was at its largest. Xbox Live was still something revolutionary, and it was an amazing time. Every game was filled with well-mannered but competitive gamers united with a common love. And the custom games! Oh my god, the best memories come from there. Tower of Power, Zombies, Super Jumps, Mike Myers, Tremors, the list is endless. I spent so long on Campaign getting all the skulls and beating the game on Legendary. Halo 2 beat my ass with a stick for hours on end while I watching Plasma Rifles and Sentinel Beams burn my body again and again. I'm sure many of us spent days at a time playing Pokemon endlessly. It wasn't to show off on the Internet or anything. We did it because it was fun and it was a huge challenge completing the Pokedex along with everything else in the games. Then Xbox Live became mainstream and the younger kids who don't know better told their parents to get it for Christmas. Slowly, we watched the community die as games like Call of Duty became more and more popular. Game developers were too lenient and now we are screwed. Lets not forget who created Halo. It wa Bungie. And now they made another masterpiece for us. There is no pay-to-play model, no micro transactions. We get free updates and other things. Look at this game, for gods sake! It's beautiful and there is so much potential! It is week 2 and people are complaining so much about this work of art. I hate IGN and other reviewers with a passion. These bastards give Call of Duty a 10/10 every year or something like that, praising the game for its innovation and compelling features. The multiplayer has been copied since 2009 with no real development. Next thing. A child wouldn't be allowed to go into a casino, an 18-rated film in the movies, buy a knife, buy a gun, buy alcohol etc etc. yet it is so easy to acquire a video game. I know that parents can buy them, but that is no different to supplying a 10 with alcohol. I think we need tougher laws in place. But to sum up, I agree. No one cares for working hard for the sake of doing it. There was a time without achievements and multiplayer.

                  • I remeber playing arcade pac-man for 6 hours straight cause i just wanted t have the highscore, it may not be quite what your saying but 6 hours on an arcade machine is pretty tough. i also remember playing super mario 64 and having every star obtained through some rather long playtime, i think 90hours when it first came out. Now we have games where you dont need to strive to succeed, you just get given stuff so long as you play.
