Destiny changed how i see game reviews

i just wanted to say that because of destiny i am officially ignoring game reviews from now on. Yes many of the bad things pointed out by reviewers and players alike are very true(story, repetitive, voice acting, etc). But for me none of those things take away from the fact that attempting alien genocide with a handful of buddies is just so blamin fun! I love the cycle of kill, loot, back to town, reapeat. Iv never played a dungeon crawler(yep, thats what im calling it) that was such a joy gameplay wise(looking at u diablo 3!). So b4 i just keep rambling about why im so hooked on this game, ill just say that iv concluded that formerly trusted review houses dont have my interests and game sensibilities in mind when writing their reviews. Iv never held reviews as the primary factor when deciding to buy a game, but it was a consideration. But now after seeing the almost fervently angry reviews(gamespot, polygon, and escapist in particular) these people clearly are not in line with my interest and their opinions will get 0 consideration in my decision making process in the future.

Most of the people who complain don't play MMO's, like super competitive multiplayer environments like halo and CoD, and were expecting story the likes of Final Fantasy 7 in scale. Those who enjoy the game and do not sit on these forums and complain know what to expect from dungeon crawlers and MMO's. It is a fun spin on the genres. The story will unfold with time, like who is this stranger and what faction does she represent? There isn't a single MMO, Dungeon Crawler, or FPS that had a huge expansive story upon release and Destiny leans more towards the first two genres in that respect. It took a group 16 hours straight to beat the raid. This is a testament to challenge and difficulty so lacking in many games these days. One of the members of this group, said it was the most challenging and fun gaming experiences they have had in a long time. I do not know about the rest of the community but I myself have lost interest in games like WoW, because the challenge no longer exist in them. It is good to see a game challenging its player base. I play CoD myself. I also played Halo a great deal. I honestly find it hard to get into the PvP in Destiny. Does that mean it is bad? No. I just have not spent a lot of time playing PvP to get used to it and will still not be amazing at it when I do. I will still continue to play PvP however as it a way to get gear for my character to better help get in to more difficult PvE content. I also see a lot of people complaining about weekly caps on vanguard and crucible marks. I also see a lot of people complaining about the reputation grinds. These are all aspects common to any MMO. WoW, Wildstar, Final Fantasy, they all have weekly caps on their respective raid level gear currencies. They also have gear specific to certain reputations that require grinding rep for that faction to acquire. This is meant to keep people striving for something from week to week. It is a limiter of sorts so that players focus on the many aspects of a game instead of spending 50+ hours on the game the first couple weeks grinding out enough marks, or whatever the currency is, to be in full purple gear the first two weeks of the game. There are those who still will be, but that is mostly due to some good RNG rolls on their part. Much like the old pen and paper RPGs of old, it is all about the dice roll. With all that said, not everyone will enjoy Destiny. No one in this community expects everyone to like it. For many, this game will merely be a tide over for the new CoD or Battlefield. However, for those who do enjoy Destiny and realize the potential that it has to grow and stick with it, you will find a game that will offer lots of enjoyment for a long time to come.
