GREAT Idea to make the game more social. Devs please read!

So I had what I think is a great idea how you could make destiny a bit more social and allow players a better way to link up for raids and strikes and such. I understand that bungie didn't want players being annoyed by trolls and id10ts, so there is no proximity chat or anything. But how about this: in the tower only, when you highlight a player with the right stick, put an option for "send chat request". The other player would receive a notification in game that "player x wants to chat." The player could bring up their ghost and there would be an "accept chat request" function. Once accepted, the players would be able to speak to each other within a certain proximity. At any time, either player could bring up their ghost and select "end chat with player x" if they were being trolled or irritated, or simply go to orbit, which would end all non-party chat. You could even expand this idea to allow multiple people to chat at the same time with a chat menu function with the ghost active, which would allow groups of people to talk together, and with the ability to drop individual players from the menu (maybe by navigating a pop up menu with the dpad?), trolling would still be minimal. Imagine groups of people sitting together in the green space in the tower commons, planning raids, sharing tips, or even just joking around and telling stories. I personally think this would really liven up the world, while still allowing those that don't want public interactions to have their peace. I've loved everything about this game, but I often feel like it's a bit of a lonely place. I think this would really eliminate that. Cheers.

  • What would make it even less complicated is a "Party Chat" setting, that when turned on simply required the wave emote (d-pad up) when targeting a player to invite them to a party, one need only target and wave back to join. Parties could contain as many as six players, only connect for chat, and have no effect on strike team composition (you could toggle chat to party or chat to team chat in the Nav Menu with LT). This wouldn't need an on screen prompt other than the text that is already present on screen when using these emotes on a target already ex: "JoePro waves to CaseyCasual". It'll just be understood that waving back adds you to a party chat, and maybe give a in game hint/tip the first time it happens so players can know what that does. To leave a party you'd just use the wave emote again targeting a party member, drop party automatically when you go to orbit, or just drop party from the Nav Menu by holding the LT for 3 seconds (identical to how Call Your Sparrow and Go To Orbit buttons function). Parties would always be additive up to 6 players, E.G. a party of 4 could merge with a party of 2, and so on. This feature would be disabled in PvP, but be replaced by automatic chat with your team. It would have a setting in the settings menu for Crucible chat on/off (default off), and individual players could be muted as per usual.

    • This could work for in-world random encounters too, but I thought it might be easier to implement through a patch if it was tower only.
