I know where Destinys story went.

OK, so I think we all know by now that Destiny's story is known for being hated for being so... None existent. However, that's only upfront. I know Bungie, everyone here knows Bungie. They make, if not sometimes cliche, amazing and exciting stories. Destiny is not different. However, the story is meant to be learned, in depth, through in game context clues in conjunction with the grimoire card, something that is meant to be so important that your progress is constantly on display underneath your name. So why do people feel like the story sucks? Simply put, it was executed horribly. I don't make games, though I would like to one day, and I have no idea what it was like for the boys at Bungie to make this game and I feel bad a lot of people are holding it against them, but fact is fact. Among Destiny's flaws, I think one of the biggest ones is that to learn Destinys story, not the expanded universe like Star Wars or even Halo, but the immediate story and somewhat important lore to understand the events and characters, require you to go to an external source. They took the Dark Souls approach, in that sense. That it's not shoved down your through, the exposition is a couple lines of dialogue at best and the lore is left up to the players imagination and what IS fact is not kept secret, but has to be... Found? By the people who want it. Like me. I went to the grimoire section, I read up on The Queen, the legend of The Black Garden, I went back and played the final boss and suddenly (Minor spoilers) the quite beautiful scene with the red petals that flow everywhere when you destroy the darkness residing there had a purpose. A reason for being there besides a visual flair. I felt like this VISUALLY amazing place, wasn't just face value for the first 10 seconds I see it before I kill some.... THING. But, I had to leave the game to find that out. I had to go on a mini adventure to get to it, while Dark Souls had it all right there. I got an item, I examined it, I had a small quirky paragraph of information that let my imagination and hopes go "SO THAT GUY IS THE DUDE THAT DID THAT THING AND NOW HE'S DOING THAT STUFF WITH THAT PERSON?!" while Destiny has to make me work harder for it. I'm saddened that people are so upset over the story, I'm mad that people think the universe is bland and disappointing because there IS something there. There's this magnificent blend of science and fantasy that might be cliche, it might rehash old elements, but it's still a different beast altogether. But people don't like it not because it doesn't exist, but because its HERE and not there. tl;dr Grimoire cards should be accessed in game because that shits kinda important to feel like there's a story at all.

  • Everyone thinks the Grimoire should be accessible ingame... it was easily the biggest misstep that Bungie made, we cant see the grimoire encylopedic stuff, we cant see our unlocks, we cant see our challenges... Just... what the hell?theere is no reason we shouldnt be able to access the grimoire... now I can complain abou the story being pretty vacant, because the story is meant to unfold over a long period of time and they are by no means donewith the game... we are no doubt going to get morestory in time.

  • I've sorta been suspicious that Joe Staten leaving Bungie had something to do with it. Also, I wonder if Marty being fired has anything to do with the surprisingly lack of music in this game.
So why do people feel like the story sucks? Simply put, it was executed horribly.
^ That Don't want to play a collectible card game on my console. Give me a book, I will read it. Would rather have a completly silent game and the music. O'Donnell's music is better than a thousand words at telling the story.

    • So people are paying $60 to read a story instead of experience a story. I could have done that for about $5.99 on any blog hosting site. To think I passed on millions because I didn't know that people just wanted to read about a story.

    • They still have 3 games and many DLCs planned. I'm sure they will expand their story

    • The problem is that all this great stuff you are talking about isn't in the actual game. That is why people complain that the game has no (or a terrible) story - because it's true. The "world of Destiny" may have a great background - it just wasn't put into the game called Destiny.
