Rewrite/Expand the current release content Story & Characters. Storyline: As of right now we have no idea WHY we are truly fighting the Fallen/Hive/Cabal/Vex/alien race of the week for said planet. Right now we are told: "They are bad so kill them." Except we use: The monkier "The Darkness" instead of bad guys. We have no idea what happened, and there are no characters we care about. Generally in the 1st entry of a series you create mysteries in the first half and answer half of them in the 2nd half. This creates a deep interest in the world/universe and prompts players to respond. In the beginning we are teased with reveals and never given any at all. Just what is The Traveler? How did it help us prosper? I assume it teraforms planets? How did The Speaker come to be? Characters: There are none in Destiny. Its obvious that Destiny intends for the player to be a major character as we keep doing the "impossible".. However it never expands on that. Example: FFXIV casts the player as "The Hero" and introduces a strong cast of supporting characters. The supporting cast reveals lore, provides combat support, emotional ties, and raises hope/morale in the player. In Destiny we have what I will call "Class Trainers" in the form of "Vanguards" in the Tower. However they NEVER even speak to us in the storyline. We report to them and they give us a item. No dialogue. No: "You destroyed the Sword of Crota?! This could change the entire War!" No cutscene from them explaining how what you've done as affected things. No cutscenes of them explaining how far you've come as your class. Games with long lifespans are honestly kept alive by their NPCs. Example: WoW had characters like Thrall, Sylvanas, Arthas, Varian Wyrnn, Jaina Proudmoore, etc. EQ: Firiona Vie, Lucan D'Lere FFXI: Shantotto, Aldo FFXIV: The Scions of the Seventh Dawn Destiny introduces us to "Iconic" Characters and never lets them become Iconic. The Speaker is in 2 cutscenes & voices over some Load screens/mission quotes then turns into a Vendor till the end of time. The Stranger screams Mystery & Iconic but it never goes anywhere. The Awoken Queen & her Stewart are amusing & interesting but are not allowed to take root in our minds. What would improve this is to add in more cutscenes, dialogue choices, and possibly missions where we do more than just shoot stuff. Easy and short missions where we repair things, collect things, and talk to NPCs and are treated to cutscenes that expand on said planet/culture/character lore. Cutscenes that don't even feature our characters. Cutscenes that show The Stranger being a badass. Missions where we play as The Stranger, our "Class Trainers" aka: City Vanguard maybe even The Speaker during the end of the Golden Age/when he became the Speaker. Missions where we fight alongside such characters. Look to WoW's Battle of the Undercity questline. That questline blew people's minds. For MMOs it was earthshattering. Fighting alongside your leaders, seeing WHY they are leaders, and getting insight into their own problems. What do you think? Bungie...take notes! I like this game and its universe. I want to see it flourish.
