The Grimoire (Pros and Cons)

Among the most common complaints I've seen about Destiny (which, I'll preface with saying, I have thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to enjoying further) is that the very interesting overarching plot and setting is under-explored, to which the common response is: "read the Grimoire!" Here's my take on what works and what could be improved: Pros I really like the way that backstory is doled out in bits, like puzzle pieces, to a world that is from a lore perspective mysterious, highly conjectured, and poorly understood. And I think the App for the game is aesthetically pleasing, well streamlined, and easy to navigate. I like that, when I'm away and bored or curious I can open it up on my phone and dive in for a few minutes, without having to sit in-game reading on a tv screen (which I dislike) when I could be out exploring or whatever. I think that the current system works well for those who want to, and know how, to use it. Cons Therein lies the problem: a lot of people don't want to download an app to read up on the game: they'd rather do so in-game. Perhaps people don't have access to the app or simply don't want it, and that I can understand. It seems furthermore a little obtuse to have to read something pertaining to a game outside of it. This works for in-browser games and PC games because the platform is a click away- but for console games, switching between devices seems unintuitive. Conclusion I feel that, while the app works well as a hub for all the social aspects of Destiny, the highly personal activity of reading lore I think ought to be available in game. It makes sense that social aspects are available to a social device like a phone, but I feel that something pertaining directly to in-game content ought to be available in-game. Wouldn't it be cool if, upon unlocking a new card, you could have it read aloud to you while playing? I think that would make things streamlined and easier for everyone to enjoy (albeit quite a bit of work to implement). The story is there and accessible- but to many gamers, I feel, it's hiding just out of sight. Thanks for reading.

 • Totally agree, I love to read the cards while am out and about or away from the game. But I have found that the cards don't always record achievements. On my Ghost card it still read's zone dead ghost's found, even though I have all the earth and moon ones. Good little story unfolding in the cards.
