So you want to be a successful striker...

Listen up scrubs. You're in a strike team now, and your UBER LEET SHOTGUN FUSION RIFLE NO SCOPE ROFL SUPERS don't mean shit to Phogoth, The Untamed, so sit down, shut up, and you might learn a thing or two about how to not stare at the respawn timer every 15 seconds. Part One: Spec Yourself Here at Destiny we like to believe all players are special unique snowflakes and that no build is wrong. That being said, if I see you charge Valus with a shotgun throwing Nova Bombs like you a big O.G., I will dance on your Ghost all day, strike be damned. Strikes are about versatility, and that means being able to handle things in any situation. It's fine to sit all perched behind a rock sniping the boss, but if all it takes to wreck your shit is a couple phalanxes spawning behind you, you're doing it wrong. Always keep in mind just how your arsenal interacts with your environment: are your grenades area of denial? Seekers? Does your super require you to put yourself next to the enemy? What elements are your weapons using? And so on. Knowing what weapon to use when and where, will mean the difference between that Knight getting put down from halfway across the map, or putting you down with his swole sword. Speaking of Knights... Part Two: Kill the Mobs If there's one tip you have to take from this list, make it this one. Quite frankly, the bosses are easy; sure, they'll hit you like a truck, but they're slow moving, easily aggroed, and predictable. But there's danger in numbers, and if you're shooting the Psion Flayer while the Colossus right next to him is putting on a fireworks show-- well, you don't need me to tell you you're doing it wrong, you've already died. In any of the strikes, your first priority is to take out the "little guys." As long as you're staying on top of mob management, you'll have plenty of downtime to whittle away at the boss in between waves, but if you don't do anything about them, well, we'll just see how many Wizards casting magic missiles it takes for you and your team to ragequit. You may not always know exactly when and where mobs will appear, but it shouldn't take you too long to figure how what areas they can come from. Mobs will never materialize out of the aether to shoot you in the face, so keep track of which doors or landing areas they appear at and you can get the drop on them with your... Part Three: SUPARSSSSSS (Not so Super) Go ahead, Titan, show Valus how many sick gains you've been making with that Fist of Havoc, I'll be waiting over here... Oh what's that? He doesn't give a shit? I can't believe it![/s] No, but, seriously, unless the boss is gasping for air and you feel the need to last shot a dead man, NEVER USE YOUR SUPER ON A BOSS. It just ain't worth it bro. I mean come on, I'm sure you could kill like... THREE Acolytes with that FoH, that's value, and you'll make purty little orbs of light for all your friends. You get to punch things AND be a team player?! Titan best class, TWO OP PLZ NERF BUNJIE. But for realsies, keep that thing for crowd control (Strikers, Voidwalkers, Bladedancers), sniping high-value mobs (gunslingers), or safety (Sunsingers, Defenders [if Defenders even exist, amirite? haha, no but ive really never seen one]. And speaking of safety... Part Four: Don't be a prick, cover your di-- uhh... body. Now I'm not gonna pretend to know what the popular flavor for armor/recovery/agility speccing is, but all I can say is... GOTTA GO FAST! You can do whatever you want of course, but I can pretty much guarantee that when a swole Knight is showing you his online swordplay lessons and his swole bros are coming over to help demonstrate, you're gonna wish you packed a little less armor plates for that junk in the trunk, and a little more GO-juice in your morning coffee. And if Sepiks "Easy Pickings" Prime is finding you an easy target, you may be JUST A TAD too slow for your own good. Not to toot my horn or anything (but it is so shiny), but as a speedlock, I find that I'm quite capable of boost gliding faster than most attacks (bosses included) as I move between cover, and that means not only can I disengage from a losing battle to recover, but that I can also go across the map to touch my dead friends in dubious ways if need be. SPEAKING OF TOUCHING YOUR FRIENDS... well uh, one, you should always make sure to get consent, and two... you kind of don't need to. Private Ryan(ette) is in fact quite capable of saving him or herself after a measly 30 seconds of downtime, so if you should find yourself the LAST GUARDIAN REMAINING and the situation is HOT to say the least, then take a brief moment to enjoy your Highlander victory, find a dark corner, pop a squat, and go check your Facebook feed. Those are my four big points. Feel free to contribute some of your own if you have any. By no means do I consider myself the best or be-all, end-all to PVE engagements so, please, take this advice as you wish; I'm just trying to help out any feeling a bit intimidated or lost with it all while having some fun with it. And before you call me an asshole, well uhhh... if you do what I do to mine than I guess it's a compliment, HUEHUEHUE.

 • Some guardians also need to learn to shoot the bosses in the right spot! Sick of seeing people shoot the Devil Walker in it's head

 • Fully agree. Some people (those solely used to CoD and similar games) don't seem to understand that you have to move, you have to take out mobs, you have to use supers wisely, and you have to take your time with the boss. Well written and I totally agree with you.

 • Well put together :) One point I realized though is (maybe Im just lucky), that most folks Ive been paired with did actually realize all four points. All those trategy pillars are pretty natural to understand, if anyone feels like trying to understand the mechanics of this game. Hell, in a couple of games Ive felt that I am the one holding back the team, thats how awesome some guys in my PuGs were. And Ive also seen defender titan on a strike actually, those guys have an great utility super, I mean - one minute portable safehaven for the team? yes!!!!

 • Rofl well written, and yes I actually read all of that. I agree with all your points friend. Also I play a defense Titan since falcon punching shit isn't as useful as a bubble.
