Destiny is pretty awesome. The graphics and gameplay are what I expected but the game is missing one crucial piece, and that's simple communication between players. We can't have a "MMO" FPS without communication Bungie.
I want to be able to press down on the d-pad, and have everyone within the tower, patrol session, or my multiplayer team hear me and I want to hear them back. Its just essential.
But I also recognize Bungie's problem with this. There are undoubtedly many age groups that play this game and having a wasted 21 year old college kid playing with a 14 year old can be both tricky and asinine.
So I want to start a petition and have this be heard and quantified for Bungie. Sign the petition if you agree with these two requests.
1 - Make it possible to chat with other players through a one button tap. Down on the d-pad works fine. I don't need to hear my team all the time, but I do want to be able to talk.
2 - At the character customization screen, add a personal information section where I can put my age and playing style. The information wouldn't be publicly shared but would be used to match people up based on that information.
Courtesy of Reddit user Madisthenewbeard, we now have a Change.com petition set up. Promote everything you can to get this done guys.

How about just adding keyboard chat to the social zones, and maybe by planet? I realize some people dont have headsets, and this would give us the ability to log into the chat group and try to LFG.
-
I agree in game lfg would be good just tick boxes and leave people to invite you if they need you if they want you.

bump!

Its called a "mic"

Edited by VertigoX86: 11/6/2015 2:42:04 PMOpt-in chat is there. Proximity chat would be interesting but I'm sure I'd keep it off. I don't care for other people's needs. It's annoying enough having kids constantly messaging me for help. Then again I have a dedicated group of buddies I play with. Also, the quality of in-game voice chat on PS4 is garbage in comparison to the console's own party chat feature. Take care of that first to move forward with in-game LFG options.

Edited by XTempistX: 11/6/2015 3:45:20 PMWe need open world text chat and an in-game friend list rather than using all of our actual account friend space for one game. We can always send party invites to people for voice chat or even private messages. When you press back, it allows you to pick between fire team chat and open proxy chat... What sucks is that this was made a yeah ago and yet it's still the same.

It's 2015, a whole year after this post was created, and we're still asking for the same simple feature... .... Way to pay attention to your "community" Bungie. Pffft

Tower needs its own chat and so does each Planet areas. There's mute button for a reason. Game is rated teen so, I'm guessing they can be smart and mute people or chat in general simple as that. Feels like I'm playing a solo game most of the time.
-
Part of it is game design. In pvp small maps, easy fast close to engage and kill/die, no required team work and it all leads no no need to mic up.
-
i'd prefer text chat
-
This one feels like a no brainer to me. My assumption has always been that it didn't work properly so they took it out and called it a design decision.

-blam!-ing bump

I agree with Crucible teams hear each other cause it's been plenty of times I wanted to yell "DON'T POP HEAVY YET!"
-
Voice chat in teams is fine but not in open areas where everyone can hear.
-
The planets and tower need to hold more people, I hardly see other guardians on planets. The most I've seen at once is 5.

Yeah that would be good for people like me who absolutely hate talking to random people. I have no friends that play destiny and I dont really wanna go find some random people to do raids with or whatever. Or maybe add some kind of voice chat where you say something and it will appear on the screen. So yeah.

Bungie is afraid of putting one tiny shift key on the controller...once they do it is map city.
