Thanks to Mr Snorkel's post we see a sword being used by a titan. (post no longer available)
But just how will these swords be used and how many varieties of them are there? Will they just be pick ups for a limited use or will they be part of our inventory, ammo or no ammo, to be used when ever we want.
Will they also be third person or first person, who knows, but bungie will surprise us. Its just time to see what the community thinks and where they place their votes.

I personally enjoyed the sword combat in the moon mission. It felt polished and comfortable even though it was OP. I think that if a sword gets implemented and is available for guardians to use anytime, It should be an exotic heavy. Even then it would be way overused if it didn't have some sort of 'ammo' or limit to its use. Perhaps heavy ammo pick ups could be used as a energy source for some sort of "Light Sword." After all, we are fighting the darkness and what better way to fight than with a giant, cool looking, glow stick! The comment by leighmurBJJ said swords don't have a place in Sci-fi, this person clearly has never heard of Star Wars... just saying. As far as first / third person perspective, I'm sure a simple toggle could be added to the options tab regarding this. I found that the third person perspective (again in the moon mission) didn't hinder the gameplay at all. I for one, am looking forward to seeing if Bungie has anymore sword themed surprises up their proverbial sleeve.

How about none of the above? I don't want to see kids messing up strikes and stuff because they want to be cool and go get roflstomped with their pointy metal object.
-
There is one mission with the use of a sword and it gets destroyed once you beat it. Nobody can use it other then in that mission
-
How about no swords because they're ridiculous in a Sci Fi game?
-
Based on the fact the mechanics are apparently in the game whether or not Bungie adds them as a permanent feature is prolly based on the results of polls and their concurrency centers percentages of how many people try to repeat or play crota. **shrug**

Edited by Samurai Bushidou: 9/7/2014 10:20:11 AMThere is much verity in swords as there is in guns.It is Titan class only. You can put it in your inventory. You get access to use a sword(no ammo) in the 2nd Titan upgrade class.I was playing the beta and looking at the other titan class and eventually(if you upgrade enough) you can dual wield swords. You can use it whenever you want(In single/multiplayer modes)
-
Can we keep the sword and not just drop/pick it up. But can we put it in our inventory is the real question????
-
yes yes yes come on deej I need super need my void katana for my warlock pay attention to me please lol
-
On the subject of swords not fitting into the game, don't some enemies wield swords in the game?
-
There does seem to be a sword of some type involved with a mission on the moon I believe.
It's referred to as Guardian killer and must be destroyed, those who explored the deeper parts of the moon have speculated that it may be a PVP weapon because of the Guardian killer reference, but again it's speculation. Someone did a video and mentioned it so don't shoot me if I'm wrong.
Completely Biased there is no "No Sword" Option
-
I kinda hope that if and when you get a sword it replaces your melee attack but still have the special attack powers of your heavy attack.

And instead of the one slash like with the energy sword, there should be a 1 2 3 combo attack.

Edited by MisterNoop: 9/8/2014 1:11:55 AMIt'd be cool if that's the Sword of Crota. It would provide a tough decision for that story mission. You could just destroy it like you're ordered to, or instead of destroying it, you could use it for revenge against the hive.

Lame. Go play skyrim.
-
Sweet! Also, it prob will be a primary because there is a sniper on his back. I also don't think they will be heavies because u can take down guys with a machine gun or rocket a lot faster than you can with a sword. I personally think they should be specials or a completely different slot that you tap y or triangle twice to take out. I also accidentally voted for primary.
-
More than likely a pick-up item used in Hellmouth.
-
Edited by smashadages: 9/7/2014 10:11:31 PMI'd MUCH rather it be in place of the melee or super for one of the subclasses. Imagine the Arc Blade as a sword instead of dagger/knife.
-
hmmmm.....i guess i would choose FPS-sword. Check out my idea.... it has a katana idea you might like: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/68693909/0/0

It will only be a pick up on the moon. Perhaps later on it will be added to arsenal. What I want to know is if there will be anymore special pick ups like that on other planets. Something like a Cabal shield.
-
Got a feeling it's a one off special mission type thing, I haven't seen any evidence apart from that photo that shows melee weapons
-
Might be after killing a hive knight you can pick up his sword.
-
It might be just used for certain stories. The article mentioned Sword of Corta, which is actually the name of a story mission on the moon.
-
The perfect substitute for a shotgun and if they had different damage types even better.
-
-blam!- YEAH WE DO.
-
Only way this works in first person is if it's done like halo.
