GDD - Game Design and Development
What I'm learning about is so interesting. Basically, a large portion of game companies break the basic rules of making a good game, which brings me to Halo 4 and 343i...
They did things very, very wrong. This textbook I'm reading explicitly states:
DO NOT MAKE A GAME THAT FOLLOW THE MARKET TREND; IT WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL
A bunch of other small stuff, but the good news is that the newer Halo games are following what I've read very well.
-
Follow the fans, not the market.
-
Idk man, you're pitting theories from college/uni against the experience and qualifications of seasoned developers. There's a reason why lecturers are lecturers and not masters of their field.
-
Excellent marketing The game itself didn't live up to it.
-
I think Halo 4 as a non-Halo Halo. Campaign's fine. As of multiplayer, the Ordnance Drops resemble the Scorestreaks of CoD, as u can choose power weapons while u get more points. And the Custom Loadouts are like the CoD Loadout style, totally removes skill factor. With that said, I'm playing Halo: Reach now because of that.
-
Why does CoD sell every year then? Checkerz, atheists!
-
I guess 343i would need to take that class.
-
DO NOT MAKE A GAME THAT FOLLOW THE MARKET TREND; IT WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL
And yet... rogue-like explosion.
-
Take your time. 343 took their time developing the game, and the overall game worked fantastic at launch. They just made some bad calls within the game itself, which is why it wasn't as popular with the Halo community, but I still found it to be a good game.

Edited by BannedLemön: 9/5/2014 3:18:32 AMYou should try new things. You can never know until you try. That's what 343 did with Halo 4. They tried new things, but they didn't work out. Now they can focus on improving things and remove the stuff that didn't work out to provide an overall better game.

They nailed the visuals on the head, especially the cutscenes. I like Halo 4 but it could've definitely been better, especially gameplay-wise.
