Your first hour or two on Destiny
Ok, so you've got back from Game with your Ghost edition, or the download on your Digital Guardian has finished. Tell me about how you're going to first start this game. Or does your excited preparation even run before you've picked the game up and you're readying yourself and your room/setup for it?
For me it'll be a little different to those retro games we used to be so excited to play on Mega Drive or PS1. The first MGS I read all through the manual with the intro on repeat at the Start screen. Something a little closer to home, maybe, Vanguard I spent far too long on character creation and then walked slowly around the 'starting area' absorbing all the flora and fauna (while killing massive centipedes that agro'd, of course)
Destiny?
Well I'm in a little quandary as I'll be driving back from a photoshoot at Spa Francorchamps on the Monday evening so my excited plan in my head starts by picking up my Ghost Ed from a mate who's collecting it for me at midnight. Head home and start the install as my girlfriend will be fast asleep at 3am. While it's installing I'll be absorbing as much lore and information in the books and cards in the Ghost Ed box. I'm thoroughly looking forward to reading all the piles of info they'll cram in.
Once the game has loaded I pretty much know what my Guardians (Warlock main and Hunter alt) will look like as I played endlessly in the Beta - stupidly haha. I can't decide how quickly I'm going to run through that first mission, but the next story missions I'm going to take my time on, intentionally playing very carefully and not missing a single shadow, light beam, fallen headshot.
I hope this will set a mental reminder of how carefully and appreciatively I used to play Everquest, Vanguard (I miss this game) and at the beginning WoW and set me on a good slow path through the game.
I'm not going to miss a thing!

12 RepliesBefore I leave to go to the midnight launch to pick up my limited edition version, I'm gonna treat myself to a nice takeaways dinner and buy a 6 pack of strong bourbon cola's which I'll leave in the fridge (I purposely haven't drunk alcohol in a month so that in itself is exciting). I'm going to move my tv into the office so I don't disturb my gf while she's sleeping and I don't want to be in the lounge as I live with my gf's parents. After I get the game it's a 30 minute drive home. Another cool thing is that I bought a turtle beach headset and a pair of kontrol freek analogue stick add ons just for this game so those will be sweet for my all night gaming session. I'll play for hours and hours high on destiny excitement and in a drunken haze. It will be glorious. (I live in New Zealand so we will get our physical copies quite a bit earlier than the rest of the world). I believe Tonga is the first country to see the 9th of September, followed by New Zealand an hour later.

Jumping into the story, having a few drinks and playing with my clan...then when Ive had my fill in PVE I am going into the crucible.

Streaming destiny til I pass out. PvE til I feel like PvP. Rotate between as necessary.

I'm going to take my time with it as well. I'm going to head to my gamestop around 11-1130, and if there is a long install like the beta, I'll be reading the field guide and playing with my Dinklebot. All of the people that are looking to just rush through the game just so they can get to the Raid, are just lessening the experience for themselves.

1 Replymy gamestop is only 10 minutes from my house so i will probably leave at midnight so i get there the line will be either gone or almost gone. ill start the install and read the books. if i get finished reading before the install is over i might watch some destiny on twitch until my game is ready. i plan on at least getting to the moon before i fall asleep. im excited to do the strike on the moon. i just love kiling the hive.

Im picking up a quarter ounce of the finest smokable green and most likely play the first night solo cause i doubt the servers will be too crowded at midnight on a tuesday. And I'll try to start on hard mode. at least for the missions ive already played in the beta. And of course bags of jerky and candy and coffee and energy drinks. i cant wait.

Probably won't be able to concentrate that good though knowing that I'll pick up my LE on the way home! If I'm in the early group, I'll be able to get my copy around 12pm, if I have some text to read I've promised myself to read that first, might do that while I wait for the install to finish (although I doubt that if I even can hold that promise, I'll probably just skim through it...) After all that it's Destiny all day with my buddies, pizza and probably more than a couple of beers.

I'm pretty methodical (I actually read instruction manuals), so I'll get up, feed-and-walk the dogs. Then fire up my PS4, and its pre-ordered, pre-installed copy. Enter in the code that I got for the shader for pre-ording CoD...then be on my way. Like you, I have a clear Idea of what my first characters will look like, and what classes they'll be. I played the beta for nearly 60 hours. So My approach to the first few missions is mainly going to be one of levelling BACK up my characters...seeing if the dead ghosts and loot chests are still in the same places they were in the beta, etc. I will want to take my time enjoying the Moon missions though. Since I have all-day off on Wednesday, I'll hold off those missions until then....and I'll use Tuesday getting my Warlock and Hunter to lvl 5+. Then savor the stuff that wasn't in the beta when I sit down to play all day on Wednesday.

The first hour or two my family will ask me to do random shit until I get pissed off that I ain't playing Destiny in which case I will lock myself inside my room with my phone on airplane mode sitting in the dark.

No midnight release in my Gamestop, so I'll be there as soon as I can be first thing in the morning. I'll bring it home, install. I got the Limited Edition, so I'll look through the booklets and read up while it gets itself ready. Then play solidly. I only played hunter on the Beta, so I might try one of the others, but I think I'll start off all three over the first few hours and see how they play. Gonna take my time looking around the first few places now I know what I'm doing and look for dead ghosts I might have missed. Main plan is just to enjoy the first part of the game in the way I enjoyed the rest of it through the Beta. I'm not big on the FPS games, this is really my first one I've gotten excited by, so I will be giving it my all. I just can't wait.

3 RepliesI'll probably take 10-15min in character creation, then do story mode. I'll be taking my time in story to make sure I find everything I can. I most likely won't do anything other than story mode until I beat it.
