3 RepliesThe Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called 'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter. The more you know. No offense to you by any means OP but I have read the Quran, Koran, whatever. It does indeed state these things. While the Old Testament of Christianity states 'An Eye for an Eye..' it was changed once the New Testament began, there was new laws. I do not believe your book has such a change in it. So while you might not follow such teachings, you cannot blame anyone for assuming these types of things.

I don't think you're ever going to change these people's minds with appeals to logic, but here goes: There are billions of Muslims in the world. A tiny handful of radical Muslims, following a version of the Qur'an they twisted to suit their agenda, decided to incite terror by suicide bombing WTC. How does it follow that the remaining 99.9% of Muslims in the world are scrutinized for it? There have been public shootings in which the shooter believed God told him to act this way. Are all Christians going to commit that crime? Hell no. Minnesota has a pretty significant Somali community, so I see this prejudice all the time, even in my own family. It's cowardly, unfounded, and ruins human connections. Can you imagine the things we could achieve if we didn't hold prejudice or contempt for our fellow man, when he has done nothing to earn it?

1 ReplyThese extremists have done horrible things and cannot be forgiven but you're right some Muslims have even saved American soldiers, Marcus lutrell a navy seal was taken in by Pashtun Muslims (I don't know the right term) and their traditions and promised to defend him with their lives from Taliban insurgents that threatened to slaughter the entire village. The village turned out to be tougher than the Taliban. Basically what I'm saying is Marcus would've died without them and he knows it (i read his book)

There is ignorance from both Christians and Muslims, both American and Arabic. Ultimately there is no country, race, or human who is not ignorant in some way. The only thing we can do is better educate ourselves and not speak about things we don't fully understand.

People need to understand that just because a few people that led a terrorist attack on 9/11 were Muslim, doesn't mean they are all bad people, the Christians that hate on the Muslims because of who their God is shouldn't be allowed to practice Christianity without some kind of apology, this discussion really hits home because I was a kid when this happened, but my Mom was on a business trip to New York. Let me tell you, that was one of the scariest moments of my life, but I will never blame the Islamic faith for those attacks. Only the people who committed the crime.

14 RepliesFor me, it's not muslims and Islam I don't trust. It's religions I don't trust. Take a look at history and how much violence has been caused in the name of one religion or another. You don't need a religion to believe in God. You also don't need God to be a good person. I will never be able to trust a person who is only good because they think being "good" will give them some divine utopian afterlife. Holy wars and God hating one group or another because of superficial reasons, or because of some book some racist homophobe wrote hundreds of years ago are the problems with religions. Religion not only holds us back morally but also holds back science, because people cling to these stories and teach their children these stories as fact. All this from a man who believes in God, but will never put any stock in religion because all they do is pervert and fabricate to achieve their own shitty nefarious ends.
