Evolving Pre-Order Equipment, Good idea or Not?

YES: Always have average equipment available.

NO: I do not like the idea (insert reason.)

MAYBE: I would have to try it first.

One of the biggest Pre-Order Sales pitch to any game is the Exclusive equipment that you receive with said Pre-Order. Subsequently one of the biggest let downs is how quickly that equipment becomes obsolete. Someday, probably not with Destiny, an even better pitch would be "Evolving Pre-Order Gear". As your character levels/ranks the gear Evolves to continue to provide some support. Think of it this way. As an example: If you Pre-Order you will receive an armor set that will provide the average armor rating for your level, it will grow as you grow, and it may develop any kind of customizable visual configuration. But if you don't Pre-Order you will have to fight, pay, or find your own armor each time you grow to replace what you currently have (just like it is now.) The same could be done with weapons. EDIT: To modify the idea just a little. Let's say that in order for it to grow (pretending that it is some form of symbiotic armor) it must consume other items. Armor for armor, primary for primary, etc. Now as a base package it is on the average of standard equipment, (eg. Standard helms range from 20 to 30 Armor, and rare helms range from 25 to 35 with stat boosts, the pre-order set would level in at 25 armor no boosts but in order for it to level and gain any boost it must consume a target level item and only gets 50% of that items boost only until it consumes again. Or some other way to regulate the item. Granted to keep things sensible these Pre-Order Bonuses would not be overpowering, just provide the average basic support and features for a standard item of that class and level. In short when you level, it would cover your metaphorical until you found some type of rarity with all the boosts you want. So you would never be left with last level leftovers. So what do you think? Would this be a good idea? Could it be useful? Would it make it worth while to Pre-Order a game as opposed to waiting until the prices dropped or you could find a used copy cheap? Let me know what you think and please explain any reasoning behind whatever stance you take. Thanks.

  • Sounds like it would take out a fundamental premise of the game. A preorder bonus should be nothing more than a fleeting toy to tease folks into a pre-order.

    • Yeah great gear is awesome. But when you loot like mad and never get that cool new item. It takes the fun out of it. You can't win either way. lol Get it too soon. You're bored. Get it toot late. You're annoyed.

It's a good idea but it won't be in destiny because you are meant to be forced to ditch old armour you once adored for new sets that look different to show off how good they are. Becides pre-ordering isn't meant to give you much of a bonus at all it's just meant to get you started or make you look cool.

    • So make loot redundant? You do realise loot is the core of this game? No. Dump that shit as soon as. I want to be trying on a full new suit of shiny stuff every level.

      • This is a great idea for most games, but for Destiny it doesn't fit Bungie's idea of earn your place attitude they have for their game. Also this would be giving people who preorder a decently unfair bonus to start the game with where as those who don't preorder will have to deal with whatever shitty gear they have until they find something to replace it. Honestly if the gear lasts long enough to get me past level eight I'd be perfectly content. (Good example of DLC gear that didn't make a difference in game would be the Dark Souls 2 preorder bonus. The gear was pretty much extremely low durability versions of other weapons and shields.)

        • It's definitely a good idea, but people would be annoyed they didn't have it, and I see in an effort not to make it overpowered the developers making it worse than a lot of other gear you get at that point in the game.

          • I remember fable having weapons that level with your character but they were weaker than any other legendary in the game...maybe weapons that you can level up and change the look of are OK but with so many guns out there it seems a little pointless...

            • Yep. This is exactly why I don't care about most in-game preorder content. Things that you can't get through normal gameplay or that aren't quickly trumped by other things in the game are cool, but otherwise are you really going to run with your 45 Defense chestplate after you get your Alpha Lupi Exotic?

              • I dont think they should hand out free middle tier "equipment". They should hand out exclusive skins, badges, matches, camo and or other non-game effecting items like that. I like the idea of getting the Beta emblem. It says I played the Beta. Also the emblem I get with my LE version.

                • This is a really great idea you have here, and I think bungie should really take this into consideration

                • Would defeat the purpose of having loot in a game if you start with the best and it grows with you. Having it be a tad better than what you normally start with is the better option. Don't want to destroy your hard work.
