I've been going over what we know about that Traveler. Next to nothing is pretty close to what I found. There are arguments for all of these options, but which one do you think it will end up being?! Note: These are very general assumptions based on an logic algorithm I'm putting together. There are "sub-possibilities," if you will, so if you're passionate about a differing theory, vote for the closest and post your theory in this forum! This poll will be featured in my next video, and so will interesting comments and discussions. NOTE: Keep in mind that "driven" could mean remotely. Thank you, guardians!

  • I found a ship called "rope to heaven" it's description is evidence that we shouldn't trust the traveler As it says "be wary of what you find between the stars,demons have breached the gates where once only Angels dared" perhaps we are the Angels it says, perhaps the demons are the traveler, if scolos is able to pull things trough time with the vex tech then maybe the traveler is capable of this as well, if it can truly revive the dead as the game says then why hasn't it? Becuse it was the cause of the collapse

      The Greys built it to eradicate us by fooling us into thinking it is a god that is here to protect us. They sent other alien races to fight us and forcing us to fight along side the mysterious sphere to fight back. After depending enough on the machine to fight a war we can't win, we built a city under it thinking it will protect what is left of humanity. At this point, all they have to do is pull the switch and blow up the traveler. But there is one thing keeping them from doing this...the awoken. They are the only human civilization that does not lie within the Traveler's blast radius. As soon as they are eradicated, if they can be eradicated, then human civilization as we know it is at the knees of these alien beings.

      • After watching a certain video (link is attached), I now have a completely new theory on who/what the Traveler is and what "The Darkness" is. What if "The Darkness" (composed of Fallen, Hive, Vex, and Cabal) were all "visited" by the Traveler. The Traveler is indeed acting out of self-preservation and is using different races and systems to defend itself. When different systems/races of beings realize that they are being used, they become angry and seek to destroy the Traveler for bringing its enemy to them. My guess is that the Fallen were originally the ones chasing the Traveler, or the first ones to get screwed over. I can order them based on how many planets they appear on. The Fallen are clearly investing the most resources into the fight. They are found on every planet, while the Hive and Vex are only found on 2 planets, and the Cabal on only 1. They could all be after the Traveler, and they fight with each other because they don't know that they are under a common goal: to bring down the Traveler. The other factions in the game may not even be as evil as previously thought. It would make sense that if they are after the Traveler, they would know the mindset of any other race affected by it, therefore ruling out reasoning. The Traveler was like a god to the humans. I'm sure I will be proven wrong December 9 when the DLC comes out, or when someone comes along and proves my theory wrong. I want to hear your input if you have any. Feel free to expand upon, or disprove my theory.

            I've changed my mind about the Traveler. I now believe that it's a wolf in sheep's clothing, and The Speaker is involved. How does the Speaker know about a Hive ritual that's underground, when no Guardian has ever explored the entirety of the Hive' Fortress? How did the Hive get a shard of the Traveler? Why is it called the Traveler? I suspect that the Speaker has a secret(s) kept behind closed doors, and the Traveler is called the Traveler because it travels across the galaxy from planet to planet doing whatever until it's done; using The Speaker to manipulated the native population to become it's Mercenaries while it secretly destroys their world. Probably why the Cabal, and Fallen are so pissed off of at the Traveler. >_> I really can't wait for House of Wolves now, I'll be spending more time in the Reef's Social space than the Tower now.

            • Since it seems that the Traveler is sentient and it seems that it gave its power for us to survive,maybe its a God like being.or even Jesus like being(sacrifice).Halo did have Biblical undertones.

              There is an additional option that you have failed to list or think of. I do not know what to name it though as it would make the Traveler neither organic or artificial. So I guess for now we can call it, "Beyond". The Darkness as we've seen does not appear to be neither organic nor artificial but it is indeed sentient. So The Darkness would also fall into the "Beyond" category. Every force has it's total opposite but have features similar if not the same. The Traveler I believe is a being from region beyond space, and was waiting for us on Mars to be discovered knowing that it's discovery would draw us to it out of curiosity allowing it to help us. Unfortunately even with us to back it up, The Darkness was just too powerful, and so to preserve humanity it sacrificed itself to cast away The Darkness and postpone the demise of humanity. This is not a vain effort though as the Traveler is very intelligent and is aware of humanity's sense of nobility, and need to believe in a hope. So in it's dying hours it created the Ghosts to aid humanity so that even through death the Traveler could continue to help us protect ourselves and the Traveler until we could find a way to revive it's light. Now the Traveler is not acting on it's own entirely it does have someone to answer to, and it's not the Speaker, but rather a being FAR more powerful than The Darkness. Unfortunately this being is so powerful he can not intervene without jeopardizing the lives of the creatures that exist in our realm, but he saw that The Darkness had to be stopped, and so created the Traveler and sent it or rather him to Mars and wait for humanity to find him and from there work with them and fight with them against The Darkness. How the Traveler accomplishes this however is entirely up to him thus giving him free will making the Traveler sentient as well. It is perfect just as its creator, and the Guardians are although not perfect like the Traveler or his creator we are connected to his creator through the Traveler and have become warriors of light and fire. Do you understand what I am driving at? Do you now understand what the Traveler and the Guardians truly are? {Post Discredited}

              • Here's my theory the traveler may have given the entities from the darkness its light. Then after betrayed them on base instinct and the darkness seeks revenge. Now if this is true, there is the question how did it betray them? Did it destroy their home? Or change how they view everything? If it destroyed their homes the darkness would view anything truced with the traveler as an enemy. If it changed how they viewed everything they would view everything as something they must destroy in order to live.

              • HOW DO I EXPLAIN IT it's so simple WHY DON'T YOU SEE Imagine three great nations under three great queens. The first queen writes a great book of law and her rule is just. The second queen builds a high tower and her people climb it to see the stars. The third queen raises an army and conquers everything. The future belongs to one of these queens. Her rule is harshest and her people are unhappy. But she rules. This explains everything, understand? This is why the universe is the way it is, and not some other way. Existence is a game that everything plays, and some strategies are winners: the ability to exist, to shape existence, to remake it so that your descendants - molecules or stars or people or ideas - will flourish, and others will find no ground to grow. And as the universe ticks on towards the close, the great players will face each other. In the next round there will be three queens and all of them will have armies, and now it will be a battle of swords - until one discovers the cannon, or the plague, or the killing word. Everything is becoming more ruthless and in the end only the most ruthless will remain (LOOK UP AT THE SKY) and they will hunt the territories of the night and extinguish the first glint of competition before it can even understand what it faces or why it has transgressed. This is the shape of victory: to rule the universe so absolutely that nothing will ever exist except by your consent. This is the queen at the end of time, whose sovereignty is eternal because no other sovereign can defeat it. And there is no reason for it, no more than there was reason for the victory of the atom. It is simply the winning play. Of course, it might be that there was another country, with other queens, and in this country they sat down together and made one law and one tower and one army to guard their borders. This is the dream of small minds: a gentle place ringed in spears. But I do not think those spears will hold against the queen of the country of armies. And that is all that will matter in the end. The queen of armies is the cabal and their golden light, the queen of death is obviously the hive the queen of law ie death (decay is the one true law right? nothing is forever), the traveler's army is obviously us and maybe the fallen is jelly of us Our traveler wants us to be the best wants us too shatter the law and sh*t on the queens law :)),

                • My opinion on the Traveler is one of benevolence. I think it cares for us. humanity. In some way. (In some ways, way too much lol) why else would it terraform our worlds for us? making it easier to live on them and colonize. its a small celestial body for Christs sake. visible from space as a near earth object. I very much doubt it needs an atmosphere to survive as it can travel through space with no atmosphere. and hang above ground IN atmosphere. If it was acting out of survival, why would it go out of its way to improve our tech. medicine. longevity and manipulation of light. why would it sacrifice itself to protect us? even when all seemed lost during the collapse. why not just run and keep running? why make a stand, for us? Remember in HALO4 when the Didact said that humanity was blinded by its Nobility? well i think the traveler sees something like that in us. something worth protecting from the darkness. it gave us the Ghosts to guide us when it could no longer could. it gave humanity an army of the chosen undead to protect. when it no longer could. In my story the traveler is mentor, protector. Friend and ally. good or bad, right or wrong. It protected us. Were obligated to return the favor. To me, The traveler is THE pack leader. -My opinion and "theory"

                • I personally think the traveller is a chunk of another planet in another solar system. In the other solar system the darkness already destroyed a huge chunk of the traveller so this small chunk flew all the way here to hide but the darkness found it and are trying to finish it off. Good idea?

                  Maybe the Traveler was created by humanity, the darkness a byproduct of humanity. The Fallen, Hive, Cabal once humans; corrupted by their greed and desire for expansion. Ghosts, Exo, and Vex filled with this recycled essence of life. Maybe the Traveler found itself alive during its construction and repurposed itself from its makers intent. It's all crazy, but pretty interesting to think about.

                      I get the feeling that the Traveler is half controlled be RASPUTIN, half AI. This is to say that it can operate independently, but as we saw in the Ghost Fragment Grimoire, RASPUTIN can control it:
I am invoking CARRHAE WHITE and assuming control of solar defences.
I believe that the "Solar Defences" at least include the Traveler, but that would mean that either the traveler was created by the people that built RSPN OR RSPN located the Traveler in a nearby solar system, and effectively hijacked it.
