So I've been preparing for destiny just as hard as the next guy, took off a week of paid vacation, remodeling my basement so I could have a man cave by 9/9, bought a new headset, and was even planning on replacing my ps4's HD for recording purposes. Yesterday I went to the doctors because I jammed my left thumb playing basketball earlier this week, and I found out I broke my thumb and need surgery on Tuesday to put the bone back together. I will have a thumb cast on for 4 weeks and will be unable to pick up the sticks until then, and then it depends on how successfully they get the pins out, whether I can play or not. I realize I will probably get hate for this post, but I'm extremely butt hurt and wanted to share my story. Although I won't be able to join for a few weeks, good luck to all you gaurdians who will be playing at launch, leave me some fallen scum to obliterate though!
Edit/Update: I got home from work and decided to try and test ways to play without my thumb. Tyler12400 mentioned playing claw, which I instantly dismissed, due to preconceived notions that it still needed the use of 2 thumbs. I found out I was wrong, and after I'm done watching Divergent with my girlfriend, I'm going to try out using claw in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. I will update later or tomorrow morning, thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement.
2nd Edit/Update: Tried playing claw while trying out PVZ, the drop in performance was expected but it was a little uncomfortable on the thumb and my index finger as well. Does any one else use the claw setup? If so, does it hurt regularly or is it because mine is busted?
3rd and final Edit/Update: Been almost a week since surgery, but I've been too jacked up on pain pills to make a comprehensive update. Surgery went along with no hiccups, except there was a part of the surgery I didn't anticipate. I didn't realize how large the pins are that they put in my hand and one of them reaches all the way to my index finger. The doctor emphasized that I not attempt to play video games, as I had shown him the claw grip wondering if it would be ok (I guess the strain it puts on the hand could break the pin). There may not seem like a reason for this update but I just wanted to thank everyone for the encouragement and kind words, I should be able to join the fight 2 weeks and a day after launch but until then good luck to everyone else, and enjoy this game changing product bungie is putting out!

Edited by DeltaKnight: 8/22/2014 5:48:29 PMWell, it wasn't all for nothing... I mean, it's not like you won't get to benefit from your preparations. You'll just have to wait a bit longer. Good luck, I hope you recover quickly. See you starside, Guardian.

You bore me

The last time I got injured, fractured wrist, the doctor told me hand movements would help it heal, meaning it was beneficial to play video games

Edited by Bogricia: 8/22/2014 7:05:22 PMSorry to hear about your thumb. That truly sucks. Hopefully my story will help you out a little. One month and 11 days before the PS3 launch I was in a car accident. I was the passenger in the vehicle and some idiot made an illegal left turn and hit the car I was in head on. I had a lot of injury's, but the big one was a lower trunk brachial plexus injury. In non-medical speak that means nerve damage in my shoulder that made my right hand go completely dead. (seatbelt broke ribs, broken ribs stabbed nerve, hand no worky any more). Needless to say I was pretty devastated. But I rested up and started to heal. A month went by and although my hand was still totally useless I got my ps3 and I played the hell out of it. I found a way to hold the controller against my body and mash the buttons with Stupid Hand (that is what I call my hand post nerve damage) and I was able to find a way to play. It wasn't easy at first and i got very impatient. "I used to be good, and now I suck" played like a record in my head. But I stuck with it and figured out a way to play that worked for me and eventually got better. It's been years now and I have had several surgeries on my hand. It will never be like it was. (pic was taken today) Alas forever Stupid Hand. But I still game avidly and I am still finding better and better ways to compensate for my disability. Sorry this dragged on a bit. The moral of the story is if you love gaming, you will find a way to game around your injury. Even if your thumb never returns to normal. See you in the wild Guardian

What I'm wondering is why you got "butt hurt"? What kind of doctor did you go to man?
-
Is your fault for going outside. Joking aside hope you get well sooner then you hope. But it will still be here when you do. Good luck buddy
-
I shall hope for a speedy recovery for you!

I know how it feels t get a finger jammed in by a ball, except it was a rubber ball... on my left pinkey... when I was 13... and it got fractured and dislocated. All i can say is when it had to get yanked back into place it was not fun.

Man that really really sucks! But where there is a will there is a way! Practicing moving the stick with your index finger or something, might surprise yourself. You have 3 weeks to practice lol
-
My god... That is horrid luck. Will drink a Guinness for you.
