5 RepliesPeople fail to realize that Destiny is bigger than most "open world" games out now, and that there is a lot of content within that "one" area.

It's the thought that "wow this is a big planet there should be lots to explore". So people are thinking planet sized areas so to speak which in turn provides the idea of more than one location per planet.

It has come to the point that The term "gamer" simply means whiny, entitled, spoiled brat who stomps their feet like a 3 year old who doesn't get their way. We only got to see one small part of the game on the beta, and now people say the whole game is small?????? What is wrong with people. How do they know????

Players think large surface areas. Maybe Bungie is referring to size as a matter of scope and content. Like amount of activities, how often activities occur, types of activities, armor, weapons, storyline, game modes, expansions, future release titles, etc. "Biggest game we ever made" does not necessarily mean square miles or kilometers. It could mean all the content that makes the game, everything in it.

These complaints have existed in MMO's for years. Shared world shooters also have a very bad rep for not giving gamers more options, but to be honest, for every complaint they give and for every player who takes off, there's two positive AND two new players who join versus before, so... not really worried about it all. Those who will enjoy the game will play it. Those who don't will not.

I'm sorta shocked they are shocked? They've been playing coy about the content since day one. Look talk is cheap. Especially in light of the Game Industry releasing shoddy unfinished games throughout 2013. Of course gamers are going to criticize. They've heard this song and dance before where the end result is less than stellar on six or ten year projects that they've invested a hope in. The alpha and beta helped a lot. Problem is Destiny just didn't appeal to the meat and potato FPS player. They caught the attention of RPG and MMO players as well. So exploration, story content, and heavy customization hasn't quite been met in their expectations. So of course they are going to hop around and demand clarification.

Areas can get bigger via add on content. Yeah ok, I'll buy your dlc after a year when the expansion pass is 50% off.

This may be the deepest and biggest game Bungie has made but I think people can just intuitively tell that the explorable areas are too small. I did not play Skyrim but I imagine it was much bigger and that is what is needed for an exploration game (mode) to have legs. I imagine they are also disappointed in the sized of explorable areas they were able to produce. They probably had trouble making the same game across 4 platforms and and meet the deadline. The game will still be amazing and genre-changing.

10 RepliesHonestly after playing the beta I kinda got the grasp of things and felt I'd probably burn through the campaign and get to level 20 in around 10 hours. I imagine that the notes of light are going to be the real grind, probably requiring 30-50 per piece of equipment. So really we're going to be repeating the same content ad nausem so we can get gear to repeat the same content on hard mode so we can maybe have a chance at doing raids. Depth and breadth don't count for a whole heck of a lot if there's no substance to fill it.

I think destiny will be perfect for me, just the game I have been looking to play in a long time. People just like to complain about everything. Just ignore the cry babies.

I think the vagueness of information during Destiny's early exposure caused players to fill in many of the gaps. Thus creating the hype and many unfulfilled expectations. We knew the game would have Starships and planets and those two things alone can make a person expect many moments of grandeur. Bungie was also touting this as "the biggest game they've ever made". But blinded by excitement, I feel that people read it as "the biggest game ever made". So that made them expect that every planet was a Skyrim. And Marty's music also helped entice the sense of adventuring vast new worlds Add that all together and you have expectations so far out of reach they'd make Peter molyneux proud. But don't fret, I'm sure Destiny will be a good game all the same.

It's just spoiled brats playing a beta version of a game and expecting everything all at once (at level 8 of all things). Bungie could honestly have made it 100 times larger and people would still bitch. That is the world today. Instant gratification or nothing.

4 RepliesSo my impression before ever playing the beta or anything would be that earth is just the tutorial and the smallest part of the game. Ever since first hearing about Destiny I believed the majority of the game would be out there in the solar system exploring and taking back what was ours. It's a space game, not about hanging around Earth. All that's left on Earth is the final outpost. I suppose expansions could be taking back parts of teh earth. I haven't seen anything to change that perception. I did originally think we would be traversing most of the plants in the solar system, so there is less plants than I thought, but still believe Earth is the 'tutorial' part. They stated the moon was the smallest map, so maybe slightly smaller than old Russia. I am starting to wonder if Mars and Venus are massive and are 70% of the game or so. Since we haven't seen even a glimpse of any pve content on either I think we are jumping to conclusions.
