What if Destiny added this in a later DLC or update? There are rogue gaurdians who have lost their way and attack loyal gaurdians on sight. Maybe they could be an AI enemy encountered in pve that is just slightly more intelligent during combat than the average alien. Your challenge would be fighting someone who has the same abilities, movement tactics, and weapon types as yourself. A different way this could be an idea is if there was factions that players could join that supported the Traveler and those that support the Darkness, and encountering the opposing faction in pve can insue a skirmish between the two. These are just ideas I had, what do you guys think? Would you be for Destiny having some form of rogues. Please comment the reasons for your choice or also if you think there is a different way you could imagine it being implemented into the game. Here's a little piece of lore I just made up to fit in with the rogue guardians' story:
It is true that wherever there is light, a shadow is cast. Our conviction in protecting humanity lives strong in the hearts of us guardians. However, further out in our galaxy the light of our Traveler does not shine as bright in the hearts of others. Away from Earth- fighting day in and day out, a time can pass that is so long it can waver the beliefs in that of many. Guardians that had succumbed to the Darkness. Once great heroes have the potential of becoming even greater villains. They have given up supporting humanity and on what seemed to them like a futile effort to push back the Darkness. Abandoning their ghosts and the Traveler's cause, they seek goals that are only in their favor. Faithful guardians must heed to warnings and take caution as the rogues are a faction of their own and can be just as cooperative with each other if it's in order to take you down. They storm the wastelands attacking and ambushing any faithful guardians in sight, hoping to steal even a single piece of glimmer if possible. The guardians of darkness have developed a faction of their own: The Devil's Prayer. Push back the rogues and progress through your quest. Along the way, we may hope to acquire whereabouts to their faction leaders and neutralize this threat to our cause. Stay strong guardian, stay loyal. Remember, this mission holds humanity's destiny in your hands. You are our destiny.
• Sketch for rogue guardian:
http://s30.postimg.org/54afnqco1/image.jpg
My sketch kind of got the idea I had in mind. The drawing depicts the guardian walking away from his original ghost while joining a dark version of the ghost that would accompany him. I imagined it to look like a miniature version of Sepiks Prime from the Devil's Lair. It's not as good as I hoped it to be, but I hope it gets my idea across! • Why do I believe this could be added despite contradictions with lore (if any)?
" Building a new world isn’t exact science. We don’t publish blueprints (at least not intentionally), and we don’t paint ourselves into corners." (cited from: http://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---10042013/en/News/News?aid=11162) It seems all most all us like the idea of rogues, but I see some think it wouldn't work with the story and would be too contradictory with the role of gaurdians. The statement quoted above is from Bungie who discuss how they do not paint themselves into corners. I believe they have written a story that can be flexible enough for additions in new areas of the game. Hopefully they wouldn't write the story in a way that would negate any new ideas for features in the future. They would be cutting short the planned 10 year duration of the game if they could not add twists and turns into the plot as they progressed. This is why I can believe that, though it may not seem to fit perfectly into the rest of the plot (a plot we only know as much as the beta revealed), the writers of Destiny planned and anticipated to have unforeseen ideas implemented later into gameplay that affect the lore and would need "improvising" of the plot.
Update: Well, I posted this back before the game was released, but people weren't very sure about adding something like that into the story. At the moment, since the game and introduction to the story has been released, I personally feel that it could easily be fit into the lore and background of the story. What does everyone else think?

This is a very cool idea but it would interfere with the campaign of destiny edit: Also what if u encountered a rouge guardian but u had much better gear than him ex: u r just going about ur business free roaming trying to get better gear and level up to ur next level (11) and a level 20 guardian showing up and one shots u with a rocket launcher? That wouldn't be fair so the rouges would be better as AI's

    • Faction pvp in open world no thanks. Would promote ganking and griefing where it shouldn't be. However could see the AI idea working and fitting into the campaign and story. Here is what I think would be a better idea. Random events in pvp. Lets say you are in a pvp match on last light. You are going head to head with the opposition half way through the match a fallen ship appears dropping several elite vandals, cloaker vandals a fallen captain and a devil walker. They are stronger then in pve, and the AI is going and taking points and getting kills. That way you are no longer just fighting other players but also having to facr the AI. Now you and the other team could work together and kill the event right away so you could get back to duking it out. Just be careful of your shots and supers cause they are still the enemy.

            • They are not Rogue Guardians, they are the Forsaken. "The Death you're cursed Traveler has rained down upon us all. It ends tonight. Oh it ends tonight, Speaker, and it ends with us. My God has come and given us the honor of awaking the suffering from there slumber of fear. And, once awakened, we will rise up. We will rise up this very night and we shall tear down your tower of sin. Oh we know who you are. Oh WE know who you really are." yes

Would be interesting... but I'd rather see it a different way. We all know that guy who hands out the bounties. But what if there were bounties for other players? Of course you can choose yourself if you want to be hunted or not. Both got advantages and disadvantages. As a Bounty hunter:
- Allowed to shoot the Target on sight - Able to collect loot from the Targets corpse (no items from the person self) - Huge cash prize for killing the Target - A special item for killing the Target (perhaps a class-item or unique skin) - Able to work together with other Bounty Hunters, aside from a Fire Team - The Target will have a symbol above his/her head at all times. There is no hiding - Respawns for the Bounty Hunter are set to limited. Only other Bounty Hunters are able to revive you, or you'd have to wait 30 seconds to respawn a few feet back
As a Target:
- Allowed to shoot every Hunter (they'd have a special outlining or symbol above the head - Special store opened up in the Tower where you can buy stronger weapons than normal - Missions in the form of delivery, taking out a civilian NPC or hacking a computer - Able to hack the Sparrow System, forcing all Bounty Hunters to either run or reboot the system. - Able to set up a "Rouge Fireteam" which can be made with just friends who don't need to sign up. They'll be seen as Targets until they leave the Fireteam - If doing a delivery quest, Fallen NPCs will simply ignore the Target. Unless the Target opens fire at them - Huge cash payment when the job is done correctly - Aside from the cash payment, the Target is rewarded with Rouge Sigils. Which can be used the same way as the points for the Vanguard or Iron Banner - Able to buy extra protection up front (i.e. tougher shield, fast regeneration of shield/health/Super, additional ammo) - Respawns for the Target are turned off. If you die, you'll get a screen similar to the Mission Failed screen
RULES:
- No time limit - Every weapon is allowed - Both parties will have a symbol above the player - You're only able to do damage/gain damage from players who have signed up for the bounty. Any other player will simply be there - Any Events that may occur in the Zone will happen as normal and will not affect the Bounty in any way. These Fallen can and will open fire at the Target
It's just a simple little idea I've had. Kind of like classic "Cops 'n Robbers". Now this also means there should be a new vendor in the Tower who will only speak to you if you've done any Target missions. Or one of the existing Vendors could have a different option... would work too I guess.

                • Not happening. Bungie clearly stated they wanted to create an atmosphere where guardians are united in cause. You can role play as one, but the game mechanics and story will always label you a loyal guardian. I'll post the source as soon as I find it again

                  • For starters, no it wouldnt happen. Guardians are chosen by the traveler for a distinct reason. Would it make any sense for the traveler and all his space magic wisdom to bring a guardian back to life so he could kill other guardians? Lore wise it makes no sense to me.

                          • It's a neat idea, but it defeats the purpose of a guardian. Guardians are the last hopes of the last safe city of Earth. They are on a mission to fight back the darkness so it doesn't stamp out our existence. The darkness isn't an enemy you can reason with. It only wishes to see the end of us. So I find the fact that this gameplay mechanic counteracting lore would make it weird in the story.

                            • well we do have one small hint that rogue Guardians do exist, the description for the exotic Hand cannon Last Word uses a quote which is credited to a rogue guardian. However if any appears in the story, they will be neutral or hostile npc we encounters, most likely intentionally unorganised and/or completely uninterested in recruiting the players, Bungie is clearly painting the players as the hero of this story.

                            • I remember seeing a trailer with a certain awoken guardian who seems rather hostile to the player. I'm probably using the wrong word, though. "Hostile". Anyone remember the trailer I'm talking about? In one scene, the player is seen standing infront of what I believe is to be some sort of queen. She's an awoken, and is sitting in some sort of throne (?), and to her side is a fallen soldier (Captain, if I remember correctly), though he does not attack, in fact he kind of looks like a pet; and to the queen's other side is this awoken guardian I'm talking about. He tells something to the player, angrily, but I don't remember much.

Easy fix to lore. The darkness corrupted the traveler and made it send out dysfunctional ghost. These would still find worthy people but, revive them as "Rogue Guardians". These would be the people you would brawl.

The PvP would be similar to TLOU with Hunters vs Fireflies. Its a new take on red vs blue. Good Guardians vs Rogue Guardians. Also it adds more to the story mode. I definitely wouldn't mind alternate paths.
