What if Destiny added this in a later DLC or update? There are rogue gaurdians who have lost their way and attack loyal gaurdians on sight. Maybe they could be an AI enemy encountered in pve that is just slightly more intelligent during combat than the average alien. Your challenge would be fighting someone who has the same abilities, movement tactics, and weapon types as yourself. A different way this could be an idea is if there was factions that players could join that supported the Traveler and those that support the Darkness, and encountering the opposing faction in pve can insue a skirmish between the two. These are just ideas I had, what do you guys think? Would you be for Destiny having some form of rogues. Please comment the reasons for your choice or also if you think there is a different way you could imagine it being implemented into the game. Here's a little piece of lore I just made up to fit in with the rogue guardians' story:
It is true that wherever there is light, a shadow is cast. Our conviction in protecting humanity lives strong in the hearts of us guardians. However, further out in our galaxy the light of our Traveler does not shine as bright in the hearts of others. Away from Earth- fighting day in and day out, a time can pass that is so long it can waver the beliefs in that of many. Guardians that had succumbed to the Darkness. Once great heroes have the potential of becoming even greater villains. They have given up supporting humanity and on what seemed to them like a futile effort to push back the Darkness. Abandoning their ghosts and the Traveler's cause, they seek goals that are only in their favor. Faithful guardians must heed to warnings and take caution as the rogues are a faction of their own and can be just as cooperative with each other if it's in order to take you down. They storm the wastelands attacking and ambushing any faithful guardians in sight, hoping to steal even a single piece of glimmer if possible. The guardians of darkness have developed a faction of their own: The Devil's Prayer. Push back the rogues and progress through your quest. Along the way, we may hope to acquire whereabouts to their faction leaders and neutralize this threat to our cause. Stay strong guardian, stay loyal. Remember, this mission holds humanity's destiny in your hands. You are our destiny.
• Sketch for rogue guardian:
http://s30.postimg.org/54afnqco1/image.jpg
My sketch kind of got the idea I had in mind. The drawing depicts the guardian walking away from his original ghost while joining a dark version of the ghost that would accompany him. I imagined it to look like a miniature version of Sepiks Prime from the Devil's Lair. It's not as good as I hoped it to be, but I hope it gets my idea across! • Why do I believe this could be added despite contradictions with lore (if any)?
" Building a new world isn’t exact science. We don’t publish blueprints (at least not intentionally), and we don’t paint ourselves into corners." (cited from: http://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-Weekly-Update---10042013/en/News/News?aid=11162) It seems all most all us like the idea of rogues, but I see some think it wouldn't work with the story and would be too contradictory with the role of gaurdians. The statement quoted above is from Bungie who discuss how they do not paint themselves into corners. I believe they have written a story that can be flexible enough for additions in new areas of the game. Hopefully they wouldn't write the story in a way that would negate any new ideas for features in the future. They would be cutting short the planned 10 year duration of the game if they could not add twists and turns into the plot as they progressed. This is why I can believe that, though it may not seem to fit perfectly into the rest of the plot (a plot we only know as much as the beta revealed), the writers of Destiny planned and anticipated to have unforeseen ideas implemented later into gameplay that affect the lore and would need "improvising" of the plot.
Update: Well, I posted this back before the game was released, but people weren't very sure about adding something like that into the story. At the moment, since the game and introduction to the story has been released, I personally feel that it could easily be fit into the lore and background of the story. What does everyone else think?

          • Pretty sure your ghost, which is basically little piece of the traveler, would undo the zombie magic if you turned to the darkness. Would be cool to see open world pvp zones, maybe next year they let us play as enemies. Maybe they could just do a strike type zone but as pvp.

            • A Public Event where you have to hunt down a Rogue Guardian NPC would be cool. They'd have a random class and subclass, have access to all three of their grenade types, and a rapidly recharging Super. Weapons would be determined by class: Titans have Auto+Shotgun, Hunters have Scout Rifle+Sniper, and Warlocks Pulse+Fusion. For durability, they'd be much tougher than any player Guardian, but not quite as tough as the other "Eliminate the Target" events. They'd be unmarked on the HUD, meaning you'd have to actually hunt them down. Because of their toughness and the fact you have to actively find them, the event would be ten minutes long instead of five.

                  • Now I do believe there are exceptions to every rule I don't think that would work. The ghost, created by the traveler, is what keeps you alive. In game when you are in a place where the darkness taint is strong you can't respawn. By being a dark guardian you limit your own power or should even die if you get to close to the darkness because real darkness would(I would think) snuff out your ghosts light.

                    • Having a corrupt element would be fun. Instead of returning to the Tower, perhaps they have a large ship or Hive to return to instead. Agents of the light turned over to the darkness. Sounds fun.

                      • IMO, if this "rogue guardian" but came to fruition; I'd like to see it as a public event. Like, you're walking around in Old Russia and suddenly you get ambushed by a guardian who's event is to complete a hit or something on you. That would be sweet.

                        • Seems like a pretty cool idea. I'm not going to hurt my brain too much right now to think of how it would work perfectly, but I think having a Rogue AI Guardian as a Public Event might be kind of cool. I'm not so sure about allowing players to be "rogue." I'm not completely against that idea, though. I'd need to see how exactly it would be implemented.

So over night I've expanded on this whole this. I want to write this down before it fades.
Having a corrupt element would be fun. Instead of returning to the Tower, perhaps they have a large ship or Hive to return to instead. Agents of the light turned over to the darkness. Sounds fun.
If Destiny is going to be an IP that lasts for 10+ years, something like this is sure to spice things up and keep it interesting. Much like PVP, you have a human element, real thinking people to oppose you, only this time working for certain factions of the enemy. We know not all elements of the enemy like each other either, there's in fighting. Rouges could just as easily beat on the aliens as an internal strife thing, like the Vandals and Dreg fight the Acolytes, etc.
Perhaps you're given the choice during a specific mission. Accept and they destroy your ghost, giving you a baby prime. Decline and you fight for your life to escape, and get some mega XP for doing so. Not a bad incentive, but doing so means your entire game experience changes. You run missions for the dark side, and maybe even cross into some PVP at some point. Would be cool as a rare event where both sides have to stop you and other rouges from completing what ever you're trying to do.
Another thought that crossed my mind. As Rouges, you do the prep work for the missions the Guardians do later. Like the mission you have to destroy the info unit after facing off against a wave or two of enemies as an example. In a prep work set up, you go in, clear previous enemies so your faction can move in. You prepare the computer system for their technology, then get out as they move in. Shortly after the Guardians come in, fight off the waves of enemies while the Ghost disables your work and they destroy the machine to keep the info out of enemy hands. Two sides to the story, which keep it entertaining. As for PVP, what about a rare event, like 1 in 100,000 chance of a darkness invasion of the map. Starts off pretty typical, you shoot at each other back and forth until maybe a minute in and then it starts. You hear a guy over mic: What is that? Hey guys get over here at spawn, there's something weird here. No one pays any mind, they're busy and think you're screwing around. Holy **** what is that?!! GUYS! Spawn now!!! Unless someone dies and spawns where you are, they still think you're screwing around. Okay, then I'm bringing it to you guys! Team and Enemy Team finally notice the darkness creeping up on all sides of the field. Then it isn't just PVP, it's PVD (Person vs Darkness). Your point gesture would finally get a good work out, as you point to higher ground. All maps I've seen thus far have structures to stand on so heading up would be no problem. The darkness could cover perhaps 3 to 4 ft of the ground, causing massive damage if you're inside it. The darkness might also say-- shoot missiles of darkness at you, that you need to dodge unless they push you back into the dark below. The ammo boxes are still in the darkness too so if you need to get more, you take your chances. Points would be divvied up by how much damage is caused to the darkness at that point; lets say little enemies are the ones launching missiles from within the dark and you're damaging them. A no respawn restriction zone could be put in place too, so you'd have to get revived by a team mate. As the timer draws closer to zero, the darkness recedes and disappears. Since it's not something that happens a lot maybe a dev or someone could play as the dark forces. Then they could be harsh and give you a little mercy from time to time. It would keep PVP interesting too! Some people would come out with terrific stories, and you'd go into PVP just hoping your game would be the one the darkness tried to strike at next. I'm not big into PVP, but that kind of rare event would sure as hell get me to play more. Thoughts? How could we improve on these ideas and get them noticed by the developers, if you like them? Or what other ideas do you have that could spice things up for both PVE and PVP for Guardians and Rouges alike?

This is a very cool idea but it would interfere with the campaign of destiny edit: Also what if u encountered a rouge guardian but u had much better gear than him ex: u r just going about ur business free roaming trying to get better gear and level up to ur next level (11) and a level 20 guardian showing up and one shots u with a rocket launcher? That wouldn't be fair so the rouges would be better as AI's
