For a long time Star Wars fans have been clamoring for Disney/Lucasfilm to re-release the original, unaltered cut of the first Star Wars trilogy, and Comicbook.com has now confirmed with two independent reliable sources that just such a plan is under way.
According to our sources, Disney has plans to release the original cut of the Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray. Our sources indicate that the project has been under way for quite some time, but it’s been challenging because of some damage to the original negatives they are utilizing. The goal is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete, unaltered, original form without the redone special edition SFX.
Our sources did not have an exact date as to when the original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy would be released on Blu-ray, due to the challenges Disney has encountered in pulling everything together. However, our sources indicated the goal is to have it ready and released before Star Wars Episode VII is released in theaters.
Source.

Meh, I'd rather have the special edition or whatever they released in 1997 on DVD...those VHS tapes my family have are wearing out and won't last forever :/ So yeah, I'd rather have re-release of the movies from 1997 on DVD than anything else >_> The victory celebration at the end of Episode VI is so much better than the original release, I really don't like Yub Nub that much as the whole victory celebration...but yeah, I'd much rather have that version of the movie...

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. Last I heard was Fox owned the licenses to the original trilogy for the next 20 (I think) years but they owned the licenses for A New Hope indefinitely.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to celebrate!

>Friday, 4:35pm at Disney HQ >Executive board sitting around >Trying to find ways to get everyone hyped for new Star Wars films >"We could have an advert campaign." >"Guys...." >"That could work, somebody call up Doritios, they're advert whores right?" >"Guys seriously..." >"No if you're going to call them you have to call Mt. Dew as well its a package deal..." >"Guys if you would listen for one second..." >"What about a new line of action figures?" >"No really guys..." >"We could always have old George do some kind of promo." >"Guys...." >"Frederickson what the hell is it?!?" >"Unaltered Bluray"

It'll be an attempt at editing the existing special editions to recreate the original cut because George burned the original reels while throwing action figures of Tho' Frelmuht the garbage disposal from the Mos Eisley Cantina in the air and ranting about how it's like poetry.

Finally a star wars I'm willing to buy

Speaking of Star Wars, check out the new storm trooper helmet for episode 7.

Edited by HankTheYank27: 8/17/2014 7:07:21 PMDisney could now officially be labeled as the savior of Star Wars! At first I was afraid when I heard they bought rights to it, but now I'm glad! May the force be with you fellow Guardians!

Video Tapes Master Race

I'm honestly impressed, Disney is actual doing something good for Star Wars.

It's happening indeed!

Are guns and lightsabers going to be replaced by walkie talkies?

Edited by Smarkdow: 8/17/2014 4:20:39 AMCool, the Special Editions are still better and represent Lucas' actual vision for the films. I never understood why people hated on Lucas for altering his films (for the better). The redone effects make the film so much more enjoyable than the old, shitty 70s effects they used to have. As for Han shooting first, who really cares? It makes no difference whether he shoots first or second; besides, it's so close you can't even tell. Him shooting first, with no retaliation from Greedo whatsoever makes him look like a cold-blooded psychopath, which he obviously isn't.
Not being serious

Or am I?
So reselling games ever other year is bad but selling the same 3 movies 20 times on different formats = ok? *sigh* No wonder we have companies like apple charging full price for the same shit as the year before, because you clowns are happy to support it.

Edited by Davisteph: 8/17/2014 3:50:50 PMFor those who don't know, here is a good run-down of the changes made to the first three films. All changes can be found here.

Yay! Han shoots first again!
