Are random drops really worthy of a story? an other way to look at earning your loot?

I posted a thread about and promoting crafting in Destiny! It was half liked half un-liked by people. One of the common arguments against it was: Bungie wants us to earn our loot, grinding to find materials to craft is not earning and not worthy of a story. My view on this was entirely opposite. For example, i spent some time in explore mode doing quests for hours, I found mostly nothing good and received hardly any vanguard currency. In contrast, I then embarked on a single strike with random people and I was randomly awarded more and better loot then I ever had on any exploring venture. What's wrong with this picture? I earned nothing (almost nothing) from hours of explore and yet 15 min. on a strike and I am set for the rest of Beta. I didn't earn the loot I got from that strike it was random. I didn't have a good story to my loot be cause it was so random and that story was the same story as anyone else who got something from that mission. Obviously, Bungie can't and shouldn't change their vision of Destiny. But I think we as players we should place more value on earning Vanguard armor and the like rather than obtaining random drops. And maybe by the next game in the franchise crafting OR some substitute will be introduced where we actually will earn our stuff not focus on getting random drops.
