Why do casuals hate MLG?

That's like a high school Bball player that loves Bball but Hates NBA.. I hate how it's casual vs. competitive (hardcore) players in the forums.. Shouldn't we be helping each other to make a game that we all love to be better? How can private matches hurt or spoil the fun for casual gamers? Edit: well at least we ALL agree, that private matches won't hurt anyone by adding it to the game. Thank you for the posts, I have a bigger understanding for both sides.

  • "Casuals" don't hate "Competitive" gamers. They hate the matter-of-fact attitude that PvP is the be all, end all of gaming and that any game that doesn't bend over backwards to tailor to the competitive community is an utter failure. You can't show up to a game that is arguably from the beginning been PvE-centric and get in a huff that the game isn't PvP enough. You knew that walking in. It was on a sign at the door. It was written on the invitation and repeated on the RSVP. PvP is a slice of the pie. It's not the entire pie. That is why "casuals" get pissy at competitive players. Because they are all showing up at the last minute, acting like they own the place, and can't be bothered with learning about what kind of game Destiny actually is.

        • Casuals view MLG as a kind of joke, saying things like they take the games too seriously, or that they need to get lives. I will admit to my occasional wise crack about "being so MLG" when I do okay in a match, but some casuals take it too far...

        • Slightly off topic but still kind of relevant: I remember the early days of PVP. Well they were early for me. Games like Unreal Tournament and Delta Force. You could take it seriously or you could have fun all in the same match. It could be tactical or a complete and utter s**t storm of a crazy time. "That gun is way over powered!" "Tough, here's a rocket to the face." Everyone else blowing each other up while two guys do a personal knife only game right in the middle of the map. Without people taking advantage. Someone new joins, doesn't realise the two guys are having a private duke-out and shoots them. He gets told what's going on, apologises and leaves them to it. Or the odd person would not take the hint and would get kicked. This kind of even handed fairness and sporting attitude just doesn't happen anymore. K/D? Would be nice, but there's too many bullets and 'nades flying around here to even attempt a decent one. That's how I remember my early PVP. Occasionally frustrating but overall: completely mental and fun.

          • Casuals hate MLG because of bad experiences with players who claim to be MLG but are not affiliated with it in any way. Playing MLG settings does not make one a part of it. A mature audience is represented by the grand. Immature players with "MLG" before their name aren't always the real deal.

            • This is still a thing? The pointless and inaccurate categorization of gamers into either casual or hardcore? Really? I thought we had all matured past that. I guess not.

              • A lot of MLG players have a history of being entitled, self-important, neck-beardy snobs that have no respect for the artistic vision of developers and think they know whats best for everyone that plays the game. They whine and gripe until games are nerfed to oblivion and watered down to a shell of what they once were. Casuals like to play good games and have fun, and get irritated when pro players start acting like Gods and taking the fun aspect out of the game.

                • Because "MLG" players are generally entitled-dudebros who take gaming way too seriously. They thing playing video games is a sport. It's not. It's a recreational activity.

I wouldn't, and don't have a problem with them provided that their stupid rules are kept out of the core game. The ESL rules for BF4 are an utter joke, it waters the whole thing down to who can be the biggest tryhard with the ACE 23. It's dull to watch, infuriating to play and most of all -funny-. It's funny because these plebs might as well just go and play call of duty or halo, they take literally everything that makes battlefield different out of it and focus it on running around in a cluster-blam!- map tryharding away with the easymode guns. Vehicles? lolno Explosives? Nope Only five ARs and Carbines allowed (All of them are the shitbucket ones as well) Oh but you can use any LolMG you want or Sniper rifle -Unless it's a DLC gun then tough shit. Like I said, as long as they keep their pathetic game variants out of the core and don't get influence over the design of the future MP then I don't have a problem with them.

Because you have the idiots on these forums, like Lovell, that go on and on about there awesome KD, and how they are "pro", and wanna be MLG. When they arnt MLG in the slightest at all. 99.9% of the people that posted in this thread, that said "they are semi hardcore" and "pro" gaming, just proved my point. You are not pro, you probably arnt even that hardcore, please stop, it's just childish.

Because the vocal MLG wannabes get on here and spout their bigoted drivel about how anyone who doesn't go 2.0 KD and so much as touches SP games are bad and ruining the gaming industry cuz bad. I certainly wouldn't consider myself a casual, but I dislike MLG for claiming gaming is a sport. IMHO, in it ain't athletic, it isn't even close to a sport. Oh, and they describe games that fit their niche as "competitive". I'm sorry, but anything that can be won is by definition competitive. I really wish they'd find another term.

                            • Here's why I don't I like Pro gamers. Let's say there is a sport invented, and you love it to no end. You play it every day, and just have fun. Then people turn it into a competition. Ok, nothing bad, just seeing who is better. Then it turns into big tournaments, with prizes and stuff. Finally it boils into MLG. Still nothing wrong. The problem I have is when those MLG players start asking for things to be put in the game, or taken out so that it can be more competitive. 9/10 what they want sucks the fun out of it for us. Prime example is Call of Duty. Call of duty had a robust campaign, decent set of vehicles to use, and just was over all fun. Now it is centered around MLG players, so the campaign is lacking, it's the same thing every year because that's what the pros want, and you just don't enjoy that game you used to love. Now all we have to look forward to is a the side games that ship along with CoD. In short, I don't mind pro gamers, I do care about Developers shifting there game to focus on them. I'm all for private matches though. I wish they were here. But PvE will be a blast.

                              • I think the problem is the culture, so to speak, associated with MLG. All the really vocal supporters are usually total f*ckheads and would see no problem in verbally abusing anybody with a different opinion, let alone a lower k/d. I mean you can see it in the language of the so-called MLG pros in this very thread. I also don't like MLG because it's making something that's supposed to be fun way too serious. I mean the really competitive types have the right to have fun too, don't get me wrong, but when it starts to adversely affect the rest of the community because of how they treat others it gets to be really annoying.

Oh where do i even start. First off, i bet 0% of the people that are claiming to be "MLG" on this forum actually are MLG. And then it is the fact that this bunch of self proclaimed MLGs feel that they are so far above everyone else, that they openly go around and call everyone else "casuals", and in the gaming world that have turned into a rather offensive term.
