The RAIDS: Ultimate Strategy and Tactics Thread

Tactics should be shared with the community!

212

Tactics should be kept secret in the clan

95

Only simpler Tactics should be shared.

I think we need to start thinking of Strategy and Tactics... Those who have played the alpha and beta know how some enemies behave and have learned how to fight them. A simple example would be Thralls. Thralls cannot jump so if you stand on something like a cabinet then they cannot reach you. Oh and for those who don't know the difference between Strategy and Tactics, have a read. Strategy is the long term plan... Getting your weapons and armour ready for the raid, making sure you have reloads for all weapon types before the start of the raid. Making sure your skills are going to be up to handling the raid. Yes, Strategy is all about the clan/group plans before you even see the front door of the raid. Tactics are your plans while you are in combat inside the raid. "Player A fire from the left to draw the Spider Tank's attention so that Player B can rush in and rescue Player C". That is an example of Tactics. Another is "Player B run across that open area to draw the fire from the invisible sniper so we can figure where he is firing from". Yes, too many players think strategy and tactics are interchangeable... and they aren't. Just think of Strategy as the long term plan outside of combat while Tactics is the short term plans when in combat. In fact you can use American Football ideas of pre-planned "plays" to make your team more efficient. If your team know the plays you can run the combat more effectively. Here is a simple example using the rescue above. 1. You go into battle and player C gets killed by the Spider Tank on the left side of the map. 2. Players A and B rush over to C to resuscitate him but the enemy Tank tracks the group, fires and they all die. 3. Game Over! As you can see, no tactics and you lose out. But if you do the following you can easily rescue anyone from the powerful tank with no risk. 1. You go into battle and player C gets killed by the Spider Tank on the left side of the map. 2. Player A calls out "B Rescue C. A will decoy right." 3. Player B moves to cover on the left side and calls out "B ready" 4. Player A moves to the right behind cover and calls out "A distracting now!" and starts firing at the tank. 5. The Tanks rotates the barrel towards player A and player A takes cover and calls out "Go For Rescue". 6. Player B rushes out and resuscitates Player C and they both run for cover. All survive. This is a simple tactic that anyone can do but if you don't do it then there is a good chance you will all end up dead. Now here is a question.... will clans keep their Raid tactics to themselves or will you share with the rest of the community?

  • Against any kind of "knight" it's IMPORTANT not to act like a bitch. I can't stand when I see ppl stand 25 meters away firing at it. You must be relentless. Get close but no too close. When it shields throw a grenade and jump over it and attack from above. Preferably with a shotgun. Or, since you should be moderately close, strafe to the left or right. I think it's better to be close so it won't shoot as much. When It tries to hit you just back up with good timing and it should miss. Note: it's wasteful to use heavy ammo on the these ugly creatures unless it's an event "knight". Another good tip is using the Titan. It's flash bang grenade is probs the grenade in PvE esp in the beginning. The stun is superbly helpful. And it drops shield if it's up. Also the warlock's vortex is great due to the continual damage it does over time. Note: it regains health when shield is present. That's why being relentless is key. Just jump around and the plasma bullets won't hit/hurt as much. If they travel with "minions" of some sort, kill them first. (Unless your guns are powerful enough to take the appearing lvl down with greater ease). Guns like the Sahara or the shingen worked well for auto rifles. Fusion rifles of course are a viable option. But you may decide to save that ammo for a more worthy foe. NOTE!!: Whatever you do DONT waste your super on these weak ass pansies. It's not worth it unless you mustn't die. I hope this helped those who are new to the game or just in general.
this tip is for being alone mainly. You can succeed at a higher rate if you travel with a fire team
• well since the Vault is on venus. venus is inhabited by vex. Im going to assume we will fight lots of vex. and since we havent experienced vex yet we dont have any tips to share. i know i plan on sharing my raid experiences via youtube now that ive got a cap card. i think some clans will keep their strats. others will share. and others will troll you and give bad strats and then when you say they dont work say git gud and make you want to pull out pocket infinity and send them all to the void

Bungie has told us that they are expecting players to have to do things you've never been asked to do in a shooter before. Multi-hour investments. Everything they've said indicates a high level of complexity in these raids. I really hope that every DLC that comes out includes a raid, that would be so sweet. The way they have described them makes them sound as long as some campaigns in some FPS games, hah. I am terrible at being a team tactical shot caller, but I do love me some strategy. As far as secrets go though this is total YouTube/twitch Bait. Youtubers and streamers are gonna tear those raids apart so within a month there is going to be plenty of information available on how to beat the raids. Raid content will generate a ton of viewers and subscribers. Once the game is out I am going to avoid youtube/twitch for destiny content until I've beaten that content for myself at least once.

            • Tactics should be shared...its a waste of a good brain to horde intelligence. Plus what dick thinks they should keep others out of raids like that? Pshh. As long as you and yours do it first I dont see an issue with letting others know how you pulled out of it ;)

I saw so stupidly many players in the Beta fail at Devil Walker in Devil's Lair - either die multiple times or took ages to kill - because they were together. So then there was just 2 targets for the tank, and I had to juggle positions at lot because the other 2 were, naturally, hiding in the ruined building on the right of the tank... the worst place ever to be in. On topic: I'd say it depends a lot on how the raid really plays out. Personally, I don't even want to know what's in there before I go in the first time. If we fail a lot during an encounter, I could see myself coming onto the forums to discuss different approaches to that specific encounter without spoiling the rest of the raid for me. I actually hope there are no "simple tactics" to the encounters in the raids of Destiny - so you can't just know exactly to rotate the boss clockwise to avoid that flamethrower thing it does, but you have to have a keen eye and adapt to the situation - if the flamethrower splits into two smaller streams and circles in both directions but can be jumped over / ducked under, act fast!

                • How to beat the raid should be, and will be shared. But since this game doesn't have the typical class roles, the battles will be different for everyone. What I mean is, just because Raid Group A used Hunters as snipers and a revival role doesn't mean Raid Group B will be successful at it. What you want people to primarily share is raid mechanics, then how the raiders responded. Like Boss Zerg has 4 phases, every other one has Adds to deal with simultaneously. We beat him by splitting our group of 6 into 3 groups of 2. Two of the groups dealt with adds, and the other kept the boss under control.

                    • I say share simple tactics, keep sophisticated tactics to your clan members. Why? Because the way my clan mates and I accomplish goals and kill bosses may not work for you and your clan. I feel that players should come up with their own battle plan, try it out to see if suits everyones play style within your clan. If it works use it, if not refine that battle until it works perfectly for everyone. Besides wouldnt you be more proud of a battle plan that you and your mates developed than one that someone just handed you?

                    • I say keep in clan coz its much easier to explain and teach. I have developed a unique tactic for all thespider mech not just deval walker. I have tought it to a clanmate and both of us will teach other clan members who then teach other clan members so on and so on. I know it sounds antisocial but are clan has no member restrictions and if u leave we dont mind, so when people leave they teach new clanmates and m8s the tactics and so on and so on. But if when the majority copy youtubers bungie and all game developers know how to change it to make it very hard to use that tactic so do not show or tell tactics on videos or streams that way developers have to make it generally harder not specifically some aspects which means a much wider diversity in strategy/tactics which is better for the game.
