I need a new computer because I'm going back to school in a couple weeks, and my old pavilion desktop--a mistake of a buy btw-- is pooping out on me. Figured I'd get a laptop, but I'm stuck on what exactly to get.
I'm looking for something that can handle schoolwork and gaming to a nice degree. If it helps my major is Mechanical Engineering. Windows 8, i7 processor are my reqs.
I'd just like community assistance, cuz there's a ton of you, and a lot of you guys probably know loads more than I do.
Thanks yo

Edited by Bistromathics: 8/13/2014 7:01:29 PMDude, everyone knows that laptops burst into flames if you try and play video games on them. It's a feature. The Lenovo Y Series seems to be pretty good.

I can't help you there. I only know desktops.

Sounds like you'll need to run programs like Solid Works, I would suggest finding something with a strong NVIDIA mobile card, like an 840m.

Asus and Gigabyte are great. Lenovo are okay too. Alienware are overpriced.

Edited by x Mr Spray x: 8/13/2014 5:31:46 PMIf you don't mind a refurbished Laptop, go to Dell Outlet and pick up an XPS, they usually have high end processors, but they mostly use Windows 7 pro, which is better for work/school/busines than Windows 8 in my opinion. Edit: if you want gaming, Dell Outlet - Alienware, again it will be refurbished, but you're not gonna get a new gaming laptop with an i7 processor for under $1000.
