Is anyone else a little bothered that there are not any race specific perks? It just seems like a wasted opportunity. Why leave it to be just cosmetic?
Edit: I am surprised by the lack of people who are upset by this. I think it may have to do with the fact that Bungie attempted to market a different audience by making a game that falls more on the COD side than on any real RPG elements.

Doesn't bother me at all, it also doesn't bother me that classes have no weapon use advantage/disadvantage (ei: the Hunter has no advantage using a Sniper Rifle then a Titan or Warlock).
-
RPG in general seem to have softened heavily with race perks. I think it's a growing trend sadly.
-
What the f***, were you expecting fallout depth? Seriously..Destiny is just another shoot and loot...
-
Nope don't think its a good idea in this game.
-
I'm glad they don't have perks. There isn't a need for it.
-
I just want some Race specific Dancing and other gestures!

Edited by Hylebos: 8/12/2014 11:14:28 PMI enjoy the fact that I don't have to be forced into being an Exo Titan in order to get some extra armor due to my Exo-ness or other such stuff.

Edited by Kankunation: 8/12/2014 11:29:40 PMI certainly don't want any race perks. Being forced to play a certain race to get its advantages takes away from people's willingness to create their own favorite character. That being said, the races currently don't serve much of any purpose. The are technically for cosmetic purposes, but seeing as you never see your character outside of their armor except for in the tower where they lose the helmet, the aesthetic reason is kind of thrown out the window. If anything, the biggest deciding factor of which race you should choose would be either the voice you want, or the dance moves you want. and boy, dance moves change A LOT depending on race and sex.

They want players to play and look the way they want race perks takes away from that.
-
That's because it's not an rpg, its a hybrid
-
Even as an mmorpg player I've always disliked race perks. They're stupid and there's no reason to have them.
-
Lol really? Who cares? I'm going Exo cause it seems awesome. I give zero f... You get it lol.
-
I like your idea, but that seems a bit too much like skyrim.
-
I could see how they could be easily implemented, but keeping it cosmetic I think suits what Bungie is aiming for better...
-
Why should their be. How would Humans be able to do anything better or worse than Exo or Awoken.... I mean with the same training surely they'd all roughly end up as skilled as one another.
-
Didn't know Destiny had elements from CoD like supers and skill trees
-
I think you may have misunderstood Bungie's intentions here. They specifically made very little difference between the 3 classes, and no difference between the 3 races, because they don't actually want 'roles' to form or min-maxing to fit them. Every class is DPS. The actual RPG elements here are extremely light (and have always intended to be so).
-
I'm happy there aren't race perks.

Destiny leans toward streamlined FPS. The RPG depth is at odds with the simplicity of a shooter, so RPG mechanics were sifted through—working through cauliflower to get to red meat. Instead giving you red meat upfront improved through tech trees you bring to PvP. Less is more in this game, like Halo classic the strategic purity is timeless for a reason. No storyline to tire of, no expansion packs to buy! The rules do not hamper your freedom. They make you truly free. I learned that from chess.

Nope. Too many people keep trying to turn this into every other MMORPG. For -blam!-'s sake, if I wanted to play WoW or FFXIV I'd be playing them.

Edited by AlmostUseful: 8/13/2014 12:17:00 AMThis is a joke right? As a gamer who has played more RPGs than I care to admit, I'm happy with this decision. Years of being boxed into specific races for specific classes to min/max my stats has made me dislike this "feature" in RPGs. This isn't a dumbing down, this is freedom to choose your race specifically for cosmetic reasons. Everybody is too caught up on the RPG elements of this game to see the FPS side. Stop boxing this game into preconceived opinions on what it should be or what other games are doing/done. Just enjoy it for what it is and will be, another great Bungie game. Edit: And how does a lack of race perks make it more in line with CoD? That last comment makes me think you're trolling. No body compares a game to CoD unless you're looking to get a rise out of some one.

I dont care about race perks i just want a race story instead lile picking a different race affects the storyline along the game like if the exo race became independant
-
Nope.

As a tri-gendered omni-sexual papau new guinian I find your implication that every race has different attributes incredibly racist. You're practically saying the black guys should have extra run speed and the asians should have better magic. People like you are the reason I cut myself. Reported to tumblr.

The majority of replies on this thread seem pleased with the approach Bungie has taken. I'm also happy not to be pigeonholed in the past like I have been with other games. OP, does this mean I'm stupid?
