God I hate the term j-rpg...
Who was the ignorant ass who came up with that? I mean where is the RPG in it? Can you customize your character? No? Does your game have multiple endings? no? Can you even make choices in the game? no? So does that mean that the game is completely linear? yes? So what is the difference between a j-rpg and an action adventure game? Turn...Base... Are you freaking kidding me?! you are calling it a ROLE PLAYING GAME because it makes you TAKE TURNS?! Leveling? SO FREAKING WHAT? What does leveling up have to do with ROLE PLAYING? Do you even know what ROLE PLAYING MEANS? I mean, It's in the -blam!-ing name. It's where you Play a Role. I'm pretty -blam!-ing sure [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_games]Role Playing[/url] doesn't mean railroaded storyline where there is no decision making other than which attack to use. It's a Turn Based Action Adventure Game! What it has a story? So does Single Player Call of Duty. is CoD an RPG now? When the feck did that happen?!

JRPGs are still RPGs. You're just use to playing WRPGs. JRPGs and WRPGs are both RPGs, just different types of RPGs.

13 RepliesRole playing isn't necessarily always about making choices. Dark Souls is an RPG with an almost nonexistent plot and very little dialog, but you're still role playing. I think you just need to take the stick out of your ass and not get so worked up over a video game.

Long as your taking up the Role of said character in his/her story in a fictional/fantasy world, It's an RPG. I don't think it's necessarily picking and choosing but also having a sense of freedom and exploration in that fantasy world. Dark Souls,Diablo III,The Legend Of The Dragoon,Kingdom Hearts,Witcher, all completely different, but still all RPGS The only thing I can think of that ties them together is you explore the world as that character. You don't do that in COD, it's just level to level. also...I thought JRPG just meant Japanese RPG even though it's still an RPG.
