For the love of god, please no micro-transactions.

I'm sorry if this was already brought up but please Bungie, don't put micro-transactions in Destiny. No matter what Activision or anyone else says, if there is anything that ruins good games, micro-transactions are one of the top reasons. They bring no good to games, all they do is allow people to take the easy way out. You obviously don't want you're future guardians to be cowards do you?

  • im ok with micro transactions as long as they remain cosmetic and not game changers

    • To be fair there are a difference between micro transaction and micro transactions, buying purely aesthetic things like some pet that follows you around or a new shader wouldn't be harmful, but of course practical items like a AR of doom would indeed be bad.

    • Bungie might not, but we all know Activision will force them to. Activision and EA are the biggest whores in the world, just look at CoD there's a dead horse that keeps getting beat, and after the last battlefield, I think its time to shoot that horse.

    • Bungie said they want "everything to be earned" so wouldn't putting micro transactions in the game defeat the purpose?

      • I agree in every game it comes down to "oh do you have that new gun skin and do you want things to look pretty" and that ruins the community in part people that just come for the glam of a character become annoying and overflow the community and scare away dedicated players who don't want to hear that and never put in short cuts to high lvl weapons and XP it ruins the ability to earn stuff cuss people just buy everything and have no actual time played nothing's going to tare a fire team apart fast then a rook who doesn't know how to play in the big leagues and doesn't work together thinking he's all that with is brand new gun

I agree with most of the people below. I actually enjoy supporting the developer through micro-transactions, as long as they are not locking away portions of the game just to charge us again. If it's done by launch day, it needs to come with the price of the game. If they want to continue pounding out shaders, add pets, sell more character slots etc, I'm fine with that. Look at Guild Wars 2. I believe that is precisely the business model Destiny needs to adopt.

      • Like I am sure countless others have already said in a reply. Micro transactions if done right are not a bad idea. Nothing that breaks a game just keep it simple, shaders skins, ect. Nothing that you kind of actually need to play the game and nothing that gives people any advantages over others. Make it things you can only get via purchase not in game, that way people who earned something actually earned it . Micro transactions are a good way to support a developer so they have money to keep adding content and improving our game.

Hate to sink your ship but... I'm 83.7% sure they confirmed micro transactions a while back, on the bright side i believe they said it only included aesthetic items (shaders, class items, etc) so yeah

      • Micro transactions are NOT a bad thing. Unless done by EA (those dead space micro transactions). But seriously when done properly they help support the game without ruining it and giving people unfair advantages.

        • Disagree, partially. Micro transactions are perfectly acceptable for things like cosmetics, armor variations, coloring, styles, etc. However, micro transactions for weapons and or armor that gives people an advantage, should be avoided at all costs. I'd gladly pay for the ability to customize my guardian, I want to be different after all, but I don't believe in micro transaction armor and weapons that have an effect on game play. Activision did that with the ripper in cod, and while not inherently bad, it was annoying to have to deal with, and your almost forced into having to purchase just to even the playing field. So detrimental to the gaming quality. I'd rather work for rare weaponry/armor than pay for it.

          • Personally I only find it an issue when I can't get a certain item other than purchasing it with cash. If I can get the same purchasable exotic weapons/gear thru MILD grind then I say, "To each their own"

            • Sorry but "for the love of god" is not valid as you don't know if they are atheist or not.

              • I don't mind micro transactions. As long as it's aesthetics and just change appearance of my guardian or the ship I'm cool with that. I would hate to see the point of pay to win... that would be terrible for the game. Phantasy star online 2 just does aesthetics and it's working out! It's the only game that had a positive impact in Sega stocks.

                • I don't see how a few cosmetics you can buy for a couple bucks affects anyone's performance, for better or worse. I never bought anything from Call of Duty: Trash... I mean Ghosts, but it didn't matter to me if someone wanted run around looking like a neon rainbow. If anything it made them an easier target, and if they wanted to pay for that privilege then by all means be my guest.

I have a bad feeling we will see micro transactions in Destiny as much as I don't want them. They are used as an easy source of income even if the items are unique cosmetic items

                • I love this fallacy. Everyone thinks Micro-Transactions= pay to win. You can make it work without creating an competitive advantage. Expansions and DLC are a form of after game purchase transactions, just like the micro stuff. But everyone seems to be okay with those... Where do you draw the line?

How is this such a terrible thing? All micro-transactions really do is allow people who work to compete with those who don't. With the exception, of course, of spoiled kids with rich parents. Think about it though, how else is someone who works 40 hours a week and plays for an hour or two each day supposed to compete with a kid who doesn't have a job and plays 10 hours a day? If anything, (other than the exception I mentioned) micro-transactions encourage real-life productivity, or at least don't punish it. Edit: micro-transactions also support DLC's, patches, compatibility packs etc., which is good. I feel like the majority of supporters of this thread are either to young to work, to lazy to work, or to unreliable to hold a job past their training period.

                    • DLC content worth the price are your way to go, don't ever put microtransaction bungie. You know we'll need PvE content on a constant base, you'll have your hands full giving us all the content we need, don't waste time in that shit. You remember your objective? No trade since you want ppl to brag about where they get that coat, that weapon, that armor. Imagine this Player A: wow what's the story behind that fabulous coat? Player B: MT you beggar Wow, great story. MT should stay away. Keep content coming
