EARN your loot

Some people want a trading system in Destiny. Sure, it would be nice to give your friend that second Legendary Pistol you have, but what would that do to the game? Diminish how special these items are. If you find something incredible, like the "Strength of the Pack" Cloak, you'd want to have a story to go along with it. Instead of "uh, my friend gave it to me", you can say you took out the ENTIRE Citadel on Venus BY YOURSELF. That's what Destiny is about. Not sharing rare loot you found with everyone, but making your own path, your own Legend I for one want to earn my loot, not breeze through the game and be given all the good stuff, then get bored and quit. So let's get #earnyourloot trending on BNet. Let's follow Destiny's original purpose, to share war stories and marvel at each other's accomplishments. Burn Brightly, Guardians. EDIT: Well......we're trending. HECK YES!!!!!!

  • I see intense debate about having a trade system. I support it but think it should be limited such as not being allowed to trade legendaries and currency like the iron banner marks.

  • I like the idea of people not being able to get gear by being given it. I do however think that it would be nice to have a feature like SWTOR does where if you get an item in a raid or flashpoint you can trade it with someone in your group. I think it would be coil if you got engrams from the raids that gave exotics and you could trade those engrams among group members for a short period of time, but you would have to trade an exotic engram for another exotic engram. Of course this might be hard to implement, and I'm fine with the no trade system. As long as no one can be geared up by their friend I'm good.

"We want you to earn 'em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal."...they go on to say, "Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them," the studio explained further. "But weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery." - Bungie Just thought yall would like to know...And power to you Rocketman and all other for keeping strong... Happy hunting 9/9 ^-^

          • not everything has to be tradeable. They could limit only common and uncommon goods to be traded. This way its a good way to help players get a head start on things for themselves if they haven't had any luck. Like for example getting the same 2 reward types for the last 4 strikes in a row. Bloody head piece and hand cannon.

            • Only bad thing is, there will be player to player trading. “We’re really excited about creating a player economy,” Tyson Green, lead player investment designer at Bungie, told IGN. “This is going to be a game that the community really drives, but for launch we’re going to be restricting it to trading items between your own characters.”

I think I'm actually for earning your loot..at first I thought that being able to trade loot would be a simple nice design...but then thought of all the cons that could and most likely will occur... 1. Trading becomes a virtual auction house... People begin trading items amongst friends...then realize how coveted some of the loot theyve earned is...soon enough there asking for glimmer or other rarities to substiute the trade...Then Activision recognizes the trend and jumps in to make a profit and decide to add microtransactions where people can simply buy in game currency with real world currency such as GTA's system... Pretty soon the entire game becomes pay-to-win...and everybody loses... 2. Exotics become the new Common Not Sure if many here played halo 3...but I actually enjoyed the game, enjoyed the beta more, but the final build was fun nonetheless. For those who played you'll know that one of the most coveted armors was the "Hayabusa" Armor and "Katana" after that everyone went to work...after some time though people realized they could simply use their friends(similar to using friends to trade for armor) and used them to boost for the armor...after a while everyone in the whole game and their mama had the hayabusa armor, and it went from an exceptionally awsome rare armor set to a commonplace "meh" piece of gear...that EVERYONE accused you of boosting (or in destiny's case trading) for no matter what you say/did... 3. Simliar to con number 1, everyone recognizes the coveted nature of the armor and simply utilizes ebay, craigslist, and any other means of real world trading...and the whole game is again commercialized pay-to-win lootfest...and everyone loses... I'm all for helping friends...I enjoy it...but I dont think anyone wanst rare/exotics and all the work put into to getting them to be diminished by everyone already having them from simply purchasing it or getting it for free... If people really want to help people earn gear they still can, but instead of handing them loot you can instead play by there side and make sure they do their fare share to earn the loot which I'm sure will be that much more rewarding for them in the long run as well... Also just think of the Iron Banner..though whole nature of the gametype is "show your gear"...grinding is rewarded and the best loot wins the game...if everyone simply trades to get the best gear, this gametype will be nothing more than who has the most generous friends, or the deepest pockets...and nobody wants that... I love helping friends...but I'd rather help them earn something and have self accomplishment...then hand them the gear and simply diminish all that exotic gear stands for... It's hard to say but in the end, I believe earning your loot is the best method...though this rarity for rarity i.e. exotic for exotic, uncommon for uncommon seems fair...

                  • simple solution. allow trading of common and uncommon items only, this will allow players to get their feet in the door of end game content (like the lvl 22 strikes) and get them started on getting their own legendary, rare, and exotic loot.

                  • Only way I see for this system not being abused is for there to be a in game rating system, that rates the gear so that there is no common junk for exotic gear. Exotic for Exotic, Legendary for Legendary, Rare for Rare, etc. Let it be done in the tower in front of a trader NPC. Not saying I want this though, but if it's going to be implemented, it needs to be heavily regulated.

                  • Bungie never planned to incorporate a trading system. Sad how people still bitch about it though. OH WAHHHH I WANT THIS BUT I DONT WANNA WORK FOR IT AND THE BOSS IS JUST TOO STRONK. Listen up you pansies instead of crying about it, grind up your gear, get better gear, then try again.

                    • Not a big deal to me either way. Sure it's great to have a story but be real eventually your going to get tired of that loot or find something better. I'd rather just pass it on to a good friend or if I find duplicates do the same. In the end it's mine I earned it I should be able to do as I please. Honestly I love games, play them 4 to 8 hours daily, but in the end it's entertainment and I think some take this whole "oh it's epic loot we can't trade it cause the story" stuff is kinda rediculous. It's not real life. Other than a pat on the back from fire teammates and knowing what you went through to get it, it's not like it effects you in real life, or any of us. So if I or anyone else wants to trade it we should have the option.

                    • I agree for the most part. I think players should be able to trade common and uncommon items, but nothing past that. This would include weapons, gear, and crafting items. As there is no way to try out a weapon before purchase, using a common or uncommon version gives a player an idea how something would work. No trading rare or above, no trading glimmer.

                      • Bump. I like keeping it this way. It does make your gear more special. But if raids are going to be as rewarding and difficult as they're being hinted at maybe that's where the real exotics exist.

                          • My two cents. Add trading. All of sudden you have a ton legendary merchants, and people not really building their legacy through adventures. Which really loses the whole point of Destiny.
