Raid Matchmaking: the big thing

So the only argument against a raid matchmaking system is that raids require teamwork and sometimes you would get a bad team, right? So here's the thing: You. Don't. Have. To. Use. The. Matchmaking. System. If you want to get a bunch if buddies together and do a raid, fine. Go for it. More power to you. If you have the friends to do it, then the matchmaking system isn't for you. You don't have do use it. But for us without the time or enough friends with destiny on the same console, we would like a matchmaking system. And we'll just have to deal with a bad team every now and then. But that should not be a reason to exclude us from raids.

  • This is exactly my point. You would have both options. For the casual gamer, there would be the option of matchmaking. For the serious player, there would be the option of forming a party. Make your voice heard: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/76789157/0/0 'Make me a Match'.

  • No; because of numerous reasons detailed in my post on the subject here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71257650/0/0/1 In short; Matchmaking for Raids (as things stand right now) will be nothing short of a nightmare for EVERYone involved; be they casuals looking for a 'Hard Strike' to Raiders looking for a random (please do read the discussions over on the other post, to see why it would be bad for all) - We don't have the Party control, Raid lock control, or communication options necessary to make it work right now. Could it happen 'one day' - well, with significant changes, yes... As it stands right now though; very much no.

  • This is what ive been saying all along. Matchmaking would in no way hinder those people who still want to find a group who communicates and strategizes. Those people shouldn't even attempt matchmaking in raids. For those of us who really dont care and just want to give it a go to see what happens, it should be an option. It effects no one to have matchmaking in raids, or nightfall strikes. It should be at the players discretion. I dont like plunking down $65 for something, and then being limited in the ways I can use it.

  • What they need is for player's to be able to mill about the entrance of the raid. Much like we can while on patrol when Strike teams head off to the start of their Strike on the map. That way randoms who want to raid can R3 each other and form a proper six man team. That or they have some NPC merchant dedicated to Raids at the tower they can muster around.

  • If random groups do the same bosses as organized groups bad things will happen... 1: They get stuck on the raid and frustrated 2: They complain on forums about how that part is to hard 3: It gets nerfed 4: Organized group raiders have to do an easy mode raid because randoms forced bungie to nerf that area

It's not as simple as not using it, because it would have an effect on those that don't want to use it. Raids aren't necessarily designed to be beaten in one sitting except by the most proficient and practiced players. So at the very least they would have to divide it up into multiple wings. Now it's broken up into smaller, shorter stretches. Undeniably more convenient, but fundamentally different than their vision for what raids are meant to be. But more than likely or in addition to that they would be forced to create a separate difficulty mode with its own tier of rewards. This is a problem because to be fair the gear would have to be worse than normal raid gear, but still better than strike gear. Now it's a necessary step in gear progression and everyone is basically forced to take part. It becomes like WoW where you run a faceroll raid difficulty to gear up to run flex difficulty, then you gear up from flex to run normal, and then great up from normal to run heroic In short, it sucks. Instead of the goal of raiding being a carrot on a stick. Everyone gets a carrot, and if they want they can work up to getting a slightly bigger carrot. But at the end of the day it's still a carrot. It's dull and uninspiring game design. I just strongly feel matchmaking isn't right for raids and could have a very negative impact on the game. That being said there needs to be an easier way to group up with people. I shouldn't have to add someone to my friends list just to raid with them. We need a browsable group finder with pre game chat lobbies.

      • No, the big argument against it is that the barrier of entry prevents the masses from playing it and then complaining about it to the point where it gets massively reworked because Bungie has too many complaints. In addition, it is not the only endgame content, it is a very small part intended for hardcore groups wanting the ultimate group challenge. Let them have their raids, and enjoy the rest of Destiny yourself.

      • Thank you so much, there are so many PEOPLE replying to my topic about this; "Why the Absence of Raid Matchmaking is a Problem" that are completely acting as if everyone will somehow be forced to matchmaking, that i honestly considered making a seprate thread, yet here it is. To "Those People" You wouldnt be forced to play WITH randoms in the same way you are not forced to play with randoms in crucible MATCHMAKING, if you have a full fire-team, you don't have to have randoms on your team, and you can still play! If anything it is a complete complimentary, as if you are just shy of a full squad, like just missing one person, WELL THERE YOU GO, MATCHMAKING for the last player. Lets be sensical people

        • It's not "you might get a bad team". It's "an uncoordinated team can't succeed".

          • So what happens if they put in mm and it turns out to be a terrible idea. Plus your only argument is I don't have five friends. It's not going to be that hard to find people. People are already swapping names to have people to play with. So there is no reason to complain.

            •
You. Don't. Have. To. Use. The. Matchmaking. System.
This is the dumbest -blam!-ing argument ever. You never are forced use matchmaking. Ever. You're not made to use it in any other game mode because you can always play with your friends. By adding matchmaking, that's all your doing: adding matchmaking. I don't care if you're for or against matchmaking but this is just a dumb argument against it.
