"That’s why Bungie isn’t supporting matchmaking for them; the developers don’t want them to be played by disparate groups of strangers."
That's a quote from an interview today with IGN. I feel like this is going to backfire hard for Bungie. Locking substantial content because people might not have friends in their console? And with the no global/public chat in multiplayer, how are people supposed to make friends on Destiny? Some people play casually and aren't going to scour forums to find like minded players. All these systems are fighting against each other and it's going to turn a lot of people off.

The full game might not be like the beta where you can only hear those within your fire team. Raids are at the end of the game too I think so it gives you plenty of time to make some friends during the actual storyline. The reason I believe they aren't supporting matchmaking is because they don't want you to play with random people that might not have a headset. They said raids are going to be really tough, would you trust a random person with that mission?
