A while ago I read an interview with a bungie guy (I honestly can't recall who) saying that you couldn't name your guardian in the Alpha, but in the full game you would be, since your guardian is your character and the Destiny story is yours to experience. I was relieved when I heard this, since I want to have a sense of identity between my different guardians other than the arbitrary title "Guardian" and my gamertag. Recently a FAQ was posted saying that you would NOT be able to name your guardians because it might be difficult to keep track of the three different titles for your character (PNS/XBOX nickname, "guardian" title, and given name to that character). I was extremely disappointed when I heard this. As an RPG player (yes, Destiny is a shooter/RPG), it's important for my character to have a name. To me personally, it gives a character an identity and helps to engage the player into the story of the game. I think if the player is creating the character, customizing it and such, and the character doesn't have a name in the game other than a title, then the player should absolutely have the right to give his or her character a name. This should just be a formality for any RPG. Now I understand what Bungie meant by having too many names and I agree. I think the given name should only be seen when in the character screen and when selecting your character. So, instead of selecting "Level 8 Hunter" when you start up the game, the player would be choosing "[Your Guardian Name Here]." This is a big deal for me and I'm wondering if any others feel the same way.

There can be only one! I don't want my gamer tag as my name for all my characters...
