Dark Souls or Dark Souls 2

Both being great games i wanted to hear the public viewpoint on which game is not only better in quality and enjoyment, but also as well as difficulty or memorability. Personally I prefer the first one being the bosses were more iconic and posed a much greater threat. Dark souls 2 reused Ornstein and the gargoyles. Although iconic they weren't anything new and bosses like the old iron king were cool but way too easy. Dont get me started on the dragon riders. Anyways, what do you guys think?

  • -Lore: DS>DS2 -PVE: DS>DS2 -PVP: DS>DS2 -OST: DS>DS2 -Armors and Weapons: DS=DS2 -Gameplay Mechanics: DS2>DS -DLC: DS>DS2(Still in progress, will wait for the other 2 DLC's for final judgement) I like Dark Souls 1 better than 2 because the design was better, but that doesnt mean that Dark Souls 2 is thrash. Because Dark Souls 2 is my current contender for GOTY.

    • My biggest reason for enjoying dark souls better than the sequel. Within the video my highlight would be the four kings and Sif. They are all really well thought of and developed bosses but i believe these two or actually 5 to be unique. Besides Smough and Ornstein i believe the four kings really well captured a good multiple boss fight. Instead of relying on power or just speed, you rely on both in the sense that you need power to deal damage but also speed to do it quickly. The catch is if you don't kill one in a certain amount of time another one spawns. This boss fight can go on infinitely for they will keep spawning until the final one us killed. The health bar means nothing. As for Sif i find him to be very interesting. As someone who reached new game+7 and also have 5 other characters i have been all the bosses by myself(I've also helped friends) but the one fight i cannot do by myself is.... Can you guess? Sif! ! ! Although he is not as complex as the kings his raw speed and strength, including size make for a very difficult combatant.

    • It's a tough one. I still play both quite a bit. I think PvP was way stronger in the first one. It just felt better. In 2, I don't feel like I can compete without being forced to minmax. Thusly, I haven't logged nearly as many hours into PvP. As far as pve and co-op... I don't like the despawning enemies or the soul memory thing. I loved just staying in one area literally for the entire life of a character just to help other players with a difficult boss fight. Now I can't. The enemies go away so there's nothing to do, and the soul memory limiter keeps me from helping other players. So I have to move on even if I don't want to. I understand the reasons behind it but all it does is limit the ways I can play the game. Regardless, I enjoy each one just about as much as the other.

    • Both were very good but the first one had me coming back every few weeks for long periods time wether it be for pvp or just sone boss killing the second one felt odd when fist playing it but it grew on me but when I got all achievements for it I stopped for a while and never gave it a second thought(lack of Darkmoon blade might have also contributed)

I enjoyed them both, Dark Souls 2 had better controls,Weapons all had a point,Dual wielding was much better, environments looked better , exploring was great, however they reused bosses & areas. The Royal Rat looks like Sif 2.0 minus the feels, the bosses aren't as intimidating. Dark Souls 1 had a vague story, but you were left to interpret the context as you please. 2 was just too vague. I felt like it was easier because I played 1 so much, but again I enjoyed them both a lot.

      • Only played the first one but saw someone play the 2nd. Eh like the first one. Didn't like how the first one handles, if that makes sense.

      • I also like that in Dark Souls 1 you can actually see different areas from certain places. It makes the map feel reallycohesive and believable. Like in the Tomb of the Giants at some places you can see the Demon Ruins and the Great Hollow. I also love the views from Anor Londo and Sens fortress. It feels a lot better than Dark Souls 2. In Dark Souls 2 its really hard to get a sense that all those places exist in the same map. From Majula there are just 3d stand ins for the locations. And if you look back at Majula from Heides tower of Flame youll notice the distance and size is nothing like the actual distance it takes to walk from there.

        • I could go on a while, but Dark Souls 1 is superior in many aspects. Some significantly, most not. It boils down to Dark Souls 2 movement and combat system being much smoother, and while I'd say Dark Souls 1 is the better game, I can't bare to play it because Dark Souls 2 is so much better in that aspect.

        • I think Dark Souls I has better npc's and bosses, as well as the different areas linking together much better. But other than that I like both about the same really

        • Dark Souls II improved on a LOT of the gameplay mechanics. However, I also felt that the game was far easier and that the story in Dark Souls was better. That said, part of what makes the series great is going through for your first time. Since I had already beaten Dark Souls many times by the time I played Dark Souls II, it's kind of hard to criticize it much since I was already used to the series.

          • Dark Souls 1 is the best. I always got a sense of accomplishment from ringing the bells or killing the 4 Soul Lords. In Dark Souls 2 killing the 4 Soul Lords feels more like a chore. The world doesn't feel as connected as DS1 and I end up usually going back and forth between the different paths and I don't have a sense of purpose.
