Damage Indicators are not optimal? (with animations)

I have a huge problem identifying the direction where I get hit from if I'm in a stressful situation. the approach to use polygonal cones to show the incoming damage in a 3 dimensional space seems great in concept! and if you're looking at it in a more peaceful moment you can decipher what's going on but in the heat of battle it's not so great. I know there is a little bit more shadowing going on in the game and my depiction on the left side is not really truthful but it brings the point across. it works like an optical illusion: a colored triangle based pyramid has no indication of direction if either not enough shadowing or missing hard outlines. if you try hard enough - or maybe you don't have to - you feel as like the cone is spinning clockwise. but I assure you like the right one, it is going counter clockwise. I'm no designer! but just making the bottom and the back of the indicator way darker has a great effect. but nevertheless: thanks Bungie! you are bringing me the game of my dreams I waited 10 years for.

  • I agree. When I was getting hit, I couldn't tell if I was getting hit from the front or back, I would turn around and it would actually be in front of me. I think shaders and a hard outline would help a bit.
